A Rumination on Death

So you want to live in a world
without fear,
without suffering,
without nightmares,
without death?

Fine, you can have your numb
unfeeling robotic reality.

A world without the contrast
of fear is a world with
nothing left to hope for.

A world without the contrast
of pain and suffering
knows no pleasure,
appreciates nothing
and takes everything for granted.

A world without the contrast
of nightmares is a world
without victory
over darkness
or happy endings.

This world is a dead world
indifferent to everything
because it can’t feel anything.

This is a world full of nothing.

If you want to kill fear
then you must watch courage
die alongside it

If you want to kill pain and suffering
you must watch pleasure and happiness
die alongside it

You want to kill nightmares
then you must watch your hopes and dreams
die alongside it

If you want to kill death
you must watch your ability to truly live
die alongside it.

A world without these things
is a world without choice or free will.

Is that what you really want?

We see people living
in this matrix of nothingness every day.
These are the ones
we are trying to wake up
from their indifference…
not inflict it on them.

Are you mad?
Do you have any idea
what you are trying to invoke?

Better to ask for a world where fear
is put in its place to guard and protect us
from the danger that lies beyond it

Better to ask for a world with distributed and shared pain
so no one person’s burden ever becomes too heavy
and everyone is allowed to grow and flourish

Better to ask for a world where we are given the tools
to overcome and conquer our nightmares
for this breeds self confidence and courage

Better to ask for a world where we learn to appreciate
a life well lived

Everything is connected.
Everything is trying to find balance.

A world without death is a frightening place indeed.
