It's often the case that people who care about justice have to take the side of bad people, because bad people are the ones most commonly caught up in the so-called justice system.
Ernesto Miranda, from whose case we get the well- known Miranda warning, was a repeat criminal, was convicted of kidnapping and rape even after his illicitly obtained confession was excluded, and ultimately died violently.
Clarence Gideon, whose case ensured the right to an attorney, was innocent in that particular case, but was a repeat petty criminal.
And now we have Hunter Biden, who in general scumminess is probably between Miranda and Gideon, not as dangerous as the former, but with far less excuse for being a human dirt bag than the not-so-privileged latter. (And if his dirt baggery causes the downfall of his father, it will be delightful.)
But the law Biden is accused of violating is a horseshit law. The fact of using illegal drugs - or of just being addicted to them without even using them - is no good basis for deprivation of a constitutional right. And the laws making those drugs illegal are horseshit laws that should be eliminated immediately. The government has no legitimate authority to regulate what you choose willingly to put in your body.
So I'm rooting for jury nullification here. If that made Republicans wail and gnash their teeth in anger, that would add to the deliciousness. They pretend to be supporting gun rights, but they don't hesitate to support a non-existant drug war exception to the Constitution, including to their beloved 2nd Amendment. If the person who brought that down and better secured 2nd Amendment rights was a man they hate so much they'd like to drag his body through the streets with benefit of due process, so much the better.
