I'm not exactly a new Steemian but I do have a rep under 50. What I've always liked about Steem is the positivity. It's not as toxic as Reddit for example. Dislikes...The flagging system isn't ideal. In my time here, I've witnessed flagging wars break out. It's also not much incentive when flagging drains your voting power. I wish there were another way to sort spam and encourage quality content. I've taken to just using the mute button for some users.

Thanks for the great feedback @eitsky !

I think this is one of the traits that brought me to SteemIt.com was the less trollish comments as other sites. Also, the blogs people post are really good and insightful. I learn a lot. I don't bother with F.B, Twitter and any other social media site now.

That said... Every community is going to have it's fault's.

I might need to give this a go! ;-)

Honestly didn't know there was a mute button till this thanks for the life pro tip that is going to make my days on here so much better.

Finding an audience mostly. I understand that is how the Internet works, with thousands and thousands of posts a day, an hour, a second even and that we all need to care about community building.

But it’s pretty lonely and seems to take a while to actually discover stuff worth following and worthy a comment, unless one loves being one of thousands using and posting to stuff on the homepage trending page. Navigation, generally on-boarding, is (pardon my French) piss poor an experience.

At least... I discovered busy. I heard you can get a free upvotes from them by posting via busy rather than Steemit?!

EDIT: I meant trending page, not homepage. I’m still struggling to find authors I like to follow, without following what seems to be usual suspects (I mean those with high rep). I like small discoveries.

One thing I found is even when we follow people we never actually see the content of the people we are following because there is so much of it :)

I agree. The on-boarding is definitely lacking. The experience is going to happen away from SteemIt soon.

Not sure about that, but could be true. I know with ChainBB it used to be they would upvote you .

I got it! :)

I tried on mobile and the problem is even worse. Steemit and Busy feeds are NOT optimized for huge amounts of content. Note to self: find absolutely awesome authors so don’t need to follow too many.

Some suggested topics with a curated list of authors each would be a great improvement for us newbies, even if that still tends to lead to usual suspects. I don’t think that requires rocket scientists to make that happen either.

I will see if this is the promised land they say it is. :D

I really don't like 1 thing about Steemit......

It's making me a photo taking addict. This is bad!

Reply i have been on steemit less than a week now and the thing i think i like the most about it is that it promotes consistency and improvement. other social medias like you-tube i think find people stagnating but to maintain relevance on a platform that promotes the active search for the best content puts pressure on every creator to try harder with each new post. I think it is going to greatly increase my abilities as a writer.
