Lockdown is going terrible in our country, Nepal. For those whose dinner depends on the daily wage they get by earning in the daylight, lockdown is depressive. I am in my village spending most of my time in this lockdown either working on-farm or learning to create things by coding. A few days ago, I was having a conversation with my friend from Jhapa. He felt frustrated. He said that society over there is really in the wrong path. Not all, but most of the men are drunk whether it’s day or night. They do nothing, but drink alcohol. On the other hand, their wives wake up early, do all household works, feed their children and men. After that, they go out searching for work so that that can again feed everyone again. If men don’t have a job, they never give a share for household works. They create a fear in women’s minds showing dominance with the physical strength they have got. If such men have a job, women don’t even think of asking for a share in household works. Even if a woman earns a substantial amount of money she is bound to do everything at home from cleaning and washing to cooking.
Mostly, it's like this in most of the rural parts of Nepal. Few women are treated right. But for most of the women ,life is a terrible mess. I just got lucky to have such a male friend who thinks about women’s right . For women to have a good life, the slogans of feminism are not enough. We need support from males. I hope males to support every girl in his family and every co-worker at his workplace. Because, in the history of all fights for freedom, no change has been possible without good support from the suppressor’s group. Few are enough to ignite the issues and give a spark. Before standing as male or female we first need to stand as a good human. Not all males are like this, but a lot are. It is really bad when we have to fight for such issues rather than working for something that can contribute to making human life more beautiful.
