Happy Go Topless Day 8/28/2016!

in feminism •  8 years ago  (edited)

Well, the day is here.  Time for the big reveal (and I hope my fellow Steemster sisters join me in the cause!)

As @sean-king noted yesterday, laws requiring that female (but not male) areolas be covered are arbitrary, discriminatory and repressive.  They also violate principles of voluntarism.

Go Topless Day is a time for women across the world to protest these laws by baring our breasts, and there's no better place than Steemit to do that.  If any sista Steemsters want to join me (please do!!) just be sure to tag your pictures "freetheareola" and "NSFW".

As promised, below is my contribution to the cause.  You'll find a few more on @sean-king blog.     (all photos are of me and credited to Him)

I was vacationing in Spain this year and have to tell you that topless girls are like everywhere there, literally on every beach :D
They put their tops on when swimming, but then take it off after.
As I see it, there is a big problem in the US...

same in France where topless on the beach never been a problem and is fully allowed (at the moment, you might get more problem if you're fully covered with a burkini lol)

US is a puritan country yet, despite sexual revolution ;D

Very beautiful. I like the first one. Happy topless day...

Thank you. And happy topless day to you. :)

Well done, beautiful! :)

🤗 thank you.

Yeah! Happy Go Topless day!

And to you too @steemtits 🤗

Very nicely done, lets hope you aren't the only lovely lady of steemit to get in the holiday spirit today

Thanks very much. I'm sure there will be a few others. :)

yeah, nice art

If you had read my post of yesterday on this subject, which is linked in the OP above, you'd understand why these two links are irrelevant. This has nothing to do with a private company's "content guidelines". Rather, it has everything to do with the coercive power of the state being used to force one gender to cover certain body parts in an arbitrary and capricious manner.

lmafo!
did you even read the posts? or just the first line?
look I'm all for chicks showing off their titties.
free them titties!
it is an ignorant argument from the position your trying to defend.

(side note: your name is cacking me up! did you pick it to be a troll of that not black dude that's the head of BLM?) good shit bro!

Nah, it's just my actual real name. Go figure.

oh dang. not like its a super weird name so I could see that. xD
last name king is kinda kool too.

nice pictures (actually you are mostly alone to celebrate the topless day :( )

Thanks and being one of the few doesn't bother me at all. Still a worthy cause and a position I will continue to advocate. Next year...who knows. Maybe more participants. ;)

Awesome work. I've never understood the puritanical attitude to nudity.

I agree. I think nudity causes a lot of people discomfort and instead of trying to dig deeply and figure out why, they just say "well it's wrong and people should stay covered up" to avoid the deeper reasons for the discomfort.

If you choose to go topless don't whine when guys stare at your tits...

I doubt you'll see her whine. She's not really a whiner.

@kingkrawdad do you hear me whining? I think you are perhaps projecting your past experiences with women upon me... =| interesting attitude you chose to bring to the celebration of this holiday.

not really, just saying that guys like titties and don't really care what 'point' you're trying to make...no complaints from me...I like a nice pair of tits...

I was raise going to the nudist colony as a kid so I see no problem with nudity or by men or women, but the way we look at nudity as wrong or dirty is unhealthy and causes more harm than good. Way to go on topless day wish we were more open minded!!

And cheers to you too! I bet that was interesting going to a nudist colony when you were little. How societies develop differing standards of decency fascinates me.

to be entirely honest, even though I find topless ok at the beach or by extension in leisure places (park and so on...) I wouldn't find appropriate someone walking in city street topless (man or woman).

@djm34 I appreciate your honesty. It would be akward at first to see topless people walking down the street. But I would like to challenge each of us to question how we arrived at our definition of "appropriate."

Societally imposed? Just what we are accustomed to? Reasonable and logical? Equitable? That's all I'm trying to encourage here. Deeper ponderings.

Beautiful pictures as always from Sean! I like the Canyon and the Tennessee riverside one the most! Happy Go Topless day! :)

Those are my favorite shots too. Thanks!

Hi. I'm just discovering your post and blog. I just wanted to mention that here in Ontario, Canada women have had the right to go topless since 1991. So there is hope for perhaps the rest of North America.

You can read more about Gwen Jacobs if you are not familiar with her bravery: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/women-s-topless-court-victory-20-years-later-1.1026403

There's hope...we are just slow to change. People just don't seem to want to question "why?" so much. "Just because it's always been that way" or "because it's indecent" doesn't satisfy me. Why do we think some things are or are not indecent? I think that I think too much. ;)

Thanks for sharing the article link. I had not read that exact account of Gwen Jacobs story. I'm glad you there have the option of this freedom. Do you ever exercise it personally?

As I am male, your question doesn't apply to me directly. However I personally think it's fine and support any woman's right to do so. I have no issue with complete nudity for men and women but that seems like a stretch in today's cultural climate.

I think the argument that men will harass or oogle at a woman going topless and that somehow it shouldn't be permitted because of this is false. Many men are attracted to other things (eg. feet, face, hands etc.) more than breasts and we don't see mass assaults happening.

One thing that should be pointed out is that although this legal victory came in 1991 the actual practice of going topless here died out a couple years after it became legal. Sort of like a fad. I was in college back then and used to see women topless around that time but not for many years since. I think society has imposed an unwritten law against practicing this right because it is not exercised by woman here even though they have it. So it may as well be illegal. Kinda sad don't you think?

Very sexy photos! Go braless day is one of my favorite days of the year.

Thank you for trusting us with these pictures! What makes me most vulnerable is the idea of being nude and thank you for helping us each have the courage to share our bodies without shame!

Revealing ourselves emotionally or physically is does trigger feelings of vulnerability. It's Scary! But hiding parts of myself (and I did that for 30 years) feels like only 1/2 living. Done with that. ✌🏾 Thanks for your supportive comment.

You're welcome I just saw your reply here! Are you celebrating again this year? Is there a day like this for everyone? Sharing my body makes me feel most vulnerable and I am getting the feeling I need to do it because I see posts like yours and even friends showing their bodies as art which I think is incredibly liberating. I like how you picked a day and I would like to do the same approach but do not know which day is best?

I will celebrate this holiday each year. 🙌🏽 This year it is on August 26, 2017. Help me drum up support...it's only 1 month away!!

Wonderful I will plan a new post about this to get more participation and maybe make my own ridiculous version! Thank you for being so responsive in the comments!

Fantastic @jerrybanfield! My pleasure to respond to your comments. communication is what helps this community bond and grow.
