Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati, warned that the phenomenon of this rare lunar eclipse will be observed from Indonesia, although not as a whole.
Dwikorita added, supermoon phenomenon will affect the weather and sea waves in the territory of Indonesia, from 30 January to 1 February.
"People are encouraged to be aware of the maximum pairs of maximum tide can reach 100 to 140 centimeters," said Dwikorita, Monday (29/1/2018), in Central Jakarta.
While the minimum retrograde can reach minus 100 to 110 centimeters.
According to Dwikorita, the appeal of high tide should be cautioned by coastal residents because it can affect the disruption of transportation and activities around ports and coastal areas.
However, in general, the public is advised to be aware of the potential floods and landslides due to heavy rain and strong winds, as well as the potential for rob and rise in wave height.
"Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds are dangerous for small vessels, and traditional fishing activities should be postponed until high waves subsided," Dwikorita continued.
Researcher of LAPAN Space Science Center, Drs. Gunawan Admiranto said the total lunar eclipse occurs when the position of the earth lies between the moon and the sun.
