Warning To Festival Goers Terrorism Has Affected Society

This breaks my heart to say it but Terrorism has affected Festivals. This comes as no surprise but this is also a warning to those attending in future.

So anyway Terrorists have effected society and festivals have changed. As a worker for a few years now I've watched the world change in terms of festivals. More people in the UK attend festivals than go abroad. Last week I came back from the Isle of Wight festival which just to add is a dying piece of production failure. Basically a pop up funfair for the weekend. Anyway I've just come back and wanted to discuss the security. So there is a few things to point out here.

Now I understand and of course because of the Manchester Attacks I expected a step up in security and police. I wanted to make this blog about the affects that will have. This mainly is about those attending festivals to have a good weekend high as a kite but being warned in advance. More searches than ever before! For a few festivals searching wasn't really the case you could just walk in have a good time. Obviously over the years that changed to maybe a quick shuffle around at the gates in your bag. Now it's a full search of the bag a scan of your clothes and a check of your mobile phone. Not a browse through your phone but to prove it is a phone and not a device posing as a phone. So bare this in mind. You will be searched and unfortunately the innocent unprepared few simply going to a festival to take drugs will be caught and arrested despite the initial aim to stop terrorism. This is in some ways how Edward Snowden warned us about the future and implications of terrorism and anti terrorist measures.

You will see armed police and you will be reminded by the security at festivals you are safe and there eyes watching. This is absolutely the opposite to what I expected the future of festivals to become like. It almost reminds me of Lord Voldemort at the Quidditch World Cup.

I don't advise stuffing drugs up places it shouldn't be but I totally advise taking extra extra stealth measures when getting drugs into festivals. If you got them in easy last year cool and dandy but this year it will be different.

Expect longer queues because of searches so take water to keep hydrated. Glastonbury right now is averaging 3 to 14 hour searches and also a 2 to 3 bag rule only!

Be safe drug users and stay safe. The police and government will not catch up with society and the laws on drug use and therefore our employment and livelihood can be put at risk due to terrorism and the measures put in place to counter.
