Respect Religion!

in festivals •  7 years ago

Christianity was first brought to the Philippines in the yer 1521 by the Spaniards which was mostly Pagans or no religion. And from then Cebu City (and other region like Ilo-ilo City and Kalibo in Aklan in the Philippines) will be celebrating its annual fiesta in honor of the Child Jesus. The festival is usualy celebrated (simultaneously) during the 3rd week of the month of January with its highlight on Sunday for the Street Dancing competition. Each region has their own way of celebrating the festival which includes Novena mass, Procession, Fluvial parades, food festivals, bands and music, photo contest, Marathons and of course street dancing.

People from all over the Philippines and tourist alike flock to these places to join and witness the celebration and to party!
And in times like this, chaos or even injuries can never be avoided. That is why the city mayor in Cebu City implemented certain rule which everyone must abide. Street parties will no longer be held especialy in places where the procession on the image of the Child Jesus passes. This is to give respect and to define the true meaning of this celebration.

The Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño is one of the oldest church in Cebu and has been known all over the globe. It also has become one the tourist destinations in Cebu City. It has a lot of stories to tell and a lot of work to do specialy when you look at the complexity of the ceiling and the structures. Its belfry was also destroyed by an earthquake but was restored almost perfectly to its original structure
