The 5 Early Signs You're Starting to Recover from a Fever

When you’re sick with a fever, one of the first things you probably do is check the thermometer. If it reads 100 degrees or more, chances are you are going to spend the rest of the day curled up in bed under your favorite blanket with your heating pad cranked all the way up, but what if it’s not that high? What if it’s just 99 degrees? What does that mean for how you are feeling? Are you still sick? Or are you starting to feel better?

  1. Your head feels better
A fever can make you feel sluggish and weak, but when your head feels better, it could be the first sign that you are getting better. A fever may start to go down around the time when you have a headache that starts to get better. If this happens, then it is safe to say that you are recovering from fever.

  2. You have energy
#1 I'm no longer feeling feverish: If your fever has subsided, this is one of the first signs that you are on the road to recovery. #2 I have an appetite: This means that the levels of acid in your stomach have returned to normal and you should eat something small. #3 I'm not tired all the time: This may be because you've slept enough and will continue to feel more energized each day as your temperature gets closer to normal. You don't need any medication for colds or flu: The best way to avoid getting sick is by staying away from other people who might be ill and practicing good hygiene habits like washing your hands regularly, coughing into your sleeve, sneezing into your arm and covering up when you cough or sneeze.

  3. Your mouth doesn't hurt anymore
It's important that you know when you're starting to recover so that you can manage your symptoms better. If the fever goes away, and then it returns, this means that your fever is going in cycles. The best way to prevent yourself from becoming exhausted is by sitting in a chair or lying down for short periods of time every hour. It's also important to drink lots of fluids during these times and stay hydrated so that your fever does not return as quickly.
