PRESTO PESTO #FOODFIGHTFRIDAY

in fff •  5 years ago

Happy Friday all you fantastic, funny, fruity, frothy, foodie friends!

It's that time again to start flinging food and having fun. Sending some foam and froth to @jlsplatts,@weirdheadaches, @dandays, who always keeps us motivated to stop in on Fridays.

With the farm going at breakneck speed, it was thyme to harvest some sweet basil.

I was amazed to see how much basil I got off of one plant. So I decided to make pesto.

As it turns out , Pesto refers to the original dish "pesto alla Genovese. This sauce originated in GENOA, capital of Liguria, Italy. Of course Italy, all Italians are born food freaks aren't they? All the wonderful Italians I know CAN COOK, and love to share their bounty with family and friends. I just love to go to my son's father-in-laws house for dinner. Nick loves to cook for anyone who walks in the door. His table is filled with delicious dishes, from pasta, to fish, salads and bread. His home is full of laughs and love for family.

So back to the making. The ingredients are:
Sweet Basil ,garlic, olive oil, toasted pine nuts, coarse salt and parmigiana -Reggiano.

I quickly toasted the pines...

Breaking out my small but mighty little food processor, it was time to throw everything in and process away!

With such a great harvest this year so far with the basil, instead of eating my pesto sauce and pasta,I forged on and made a few extra batches for the freezer, love breaking it out when "all the leaves are gone and the sky is grey"

As for @thebigsweed, he was such a help, he ate my lunch for me.

So there it is my fellow chefs, hope you enjoy your thyme here.

Speaking of California, great to see you in the kitchen again @farm-mom. Knuckles to the Jurg’s.

Good Luck

You should know better than to leave something that delicious just laying around, even if it is just for a few seconds. @ plantstoplanks , it was a good thing that #farm-mom had cooked up enough to make a second plate, or she may have just decapitated me.😁😁
You are such a great cook, @farm-mom what did you expect.

I love that you enjoy my food, it's always a pleasure to serve you !!!

Mmmmmmmm I can almost smell that heavenly aroma and taste the divine flavour of that delicious looking pesto @farm-mom You are very blessed to have an avid 'taste tester' around. I'm sure @thebigsweed sees your skill in the kitchen and garden as an admirable bonus to your other talents. A great blog indeed! Thanks for sharing your recipe and images with us.

Good morning or maybe it's good day where you are. I have to look up the time change between New York, USA and where you are.

The smell of basil actually makes me smile, I go out on my deck and pinch off different herbs and just sniff them, then I feel happier. Sounds silly but it works. Now @thebigsweed is a food thief, always coming in the kitchen while I'm cooking and stealing a spoonful here and there, but my pesto day he took my whole lunch, yup ate the bowlful when I wasn't looking. Hahahaha Love gotta love a man with an appetite.

Have a wonderful day!

@thebigsweed sounds very much like my husband. He appreciates my home cooking and is a very reliable taste tester when I cook something different. 😁

Always awesome to have yummy stuff like that squirreled away for the lean months! Though my boyfriend knows better than to steal my lunch or he might lose a limb, haha. ;) Our first round of basil didn't take off, so we're trying another round since we've still got plenty of warm weather ahead. Fingers crossed it does well this time as I love fresh basil!

Hello there fellow #farmer. My basil was doing poorly in the beginning so my hubby @thebigsweed did a little research and found that we needed to lower the ph in the water. We have the stuff to add to the water to do that, lower the ph. It worked wonders. My basil just took off, remember also basil needs lots of sun 6=8 hrs. a day. Hope you get a second harvest, basil is a beautiful thing, I can sniff it for hours. hahaha

Thanks for the tips! We got purple basil seeds this time around, so I really want the double whammy of that beautiful smell and the pretty color! The seedlings are starting to sprout, so hopefully we can keep them going big enough to actually harvest. :)

Good luck with that !

That pesto looks good and your basil sure did well to produce a lot

Good evening @tattoodjay, the pesto turned out great. I just love the flavor of basil, garlic and pine nuts, to say nothing of the aroma, wuff, so good. Hope you are well my friend, have a great weekend !!

Yes doing well thanks the weekend started with a walk on the beach so all is good ;)

Nothing like a walk on the beach early in the morning. Enjoy my friend.

Thanks it was a lovely way to start the day and in an hour and a half there i only came across two others on the beach :)

Yeah I know @tattoodjay, that's why I go early to the beach, I love not seeing people, just the sound and sight of the beautiful ocean. I often do some yoga while there if I don't have an audience

the same for me, and I have seen a lady doing Yoga a couple of times on my early morning walks

By the way, which beach are you at, Long Island?
