Anything For You pt1

There were cold days that winter, but Kazri didn’t care about the temperature. Neither did he mind the snow cascading into his shoes with every calf-deep footstep walking to work or the wet socks he would wear the rest of the day. His mind was exclusively on not requiring a ride to work. He lived close enough to work that walking would only take twenty minutes at most. The office was practically on the same street as his house. Same neighborhood. Same square mile of the city.

Same planet.

With that in mind, he decided that walking to work on January the fourth would be a good idea. His older brother Grainox was sleeping, as usual, since he was working the graveyard shift during that time and he preferred not to fall asleep at the wheel mere hours after he fell asleep. And so our hero, one hastily-packed lunch box and a goofy nerd t-shirt covered by a coat later, braved the cold winds. What he didn’t know, however, was that his doorway had been enchanted by the wizard of the city. He didn’t even know that magic was real or that there was a magician right next door to his house (who also stole his electricity sometimes, but that was already being handled by his landlord). However, he stepped into the hallway leading out of his front door, pondering his date tonight. He’d met a girl earlier that caught his attention as a beautiful, intelligent, witty, and interesting girl; he was anxious for that date he had planned at a pasta restaurant and movie theater nearby. He turned toward his cat who was still in the house as he departed, and pet him briefly before closing the door behind him.
Where was this? Had they done some major renovations to the houses overnight? They looked like retro 50’s houses made with futuristic technology. The walls looked thick and durable while the colors were pastel and vibrant.
“Excuse me, sir. Where are we,” he asked his neighbor as he walked past his garage.
“Well, the same place we’ve always been. Did you forget your address, neighbor?”
“No, not that,” Kazri looked around at the houses and the cul de sac at the end of his road. That definitely hadn’t been there previously, and the cars looked like what a “Future” expo would be in the 30’s. “I guess I just hit my head this morning. What city is this, if I may ask?”
“Well that must be some bump, then. This is Boston! Well, outer Boston, but close enough to it. Sanctuary Hills, specifically.”
