Chapter 81: Cosmic Nukes

.......................................................................................................................................................................................

Oddly enough

In 1965, the Vella Satellite detected signatures of nuclear explosions that were...not from earth. They were of Cosmic Origin. In1972.the stored data of the events were taken from storage and analyzed. The ‘events’ were determined to not only NOT be from earth, but they were NOT from within the confines of the solar system. GammaRay Bursters were discovered.

The data was released to the Scientific community. They studied the data, spindled and mutilated it, and tweaked it ever which way.

ONEDAY

..a particularly bright lad determined, from the data, and extensive computer simulations, that gamma ray bursters might have been responsible for one (or more) of the Mass Extinction events in earth’s past.

The simulation also shows that a significant gamma-ray burst is likely to go off within range of Earth every billion years or so, although the stream of radiation would have to be lined up just right to affect the planet.

Currently WR104, a massive star 8,000 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius, is in position to be a potential threat.
The Bright Lad said

.....Ya think?

The Ordovician Period extinction was re examined and re thought.

Who’d ‘a thunk?
