#36:We Have a Situation Darling

..............................................................................................................................................

Deborah watched in horror as the face of the old man contorted and changed. The pupils of his eyes dilated in and out as if his focus was alternating between the thousand yard stare and reading the fine print on an insurance policy. He seemed to be talking to himself. Then his eyes closed for a moment. They re-opened almost instantly and stared into her soul.

We have a situation here darling.” the voice was odd, as if a female was speaking using male vocal apparatus. Deborah could understand it perfectly well though.

All hell is about to break loose unless you do one thing for me.” the decrepit old wreck told her.

What..what’s that?” she asked.

I need some alcohol. I don’t care what kind as long as it’s strong. The stronger the better. NOW!” the old man said. He continued to hold each orderly off the floor as if they weighed nothing. The orderlies were very, very still. The expression on their faces spoke volumes.

Yessir!” Deborah said over her shoulder as she ran to a medical supply cabinet against one of the walls.

Don’t hurt them” She opened it and hastily scanned the labels. It was crazy, it was stupid, but Deborah believed, in her heart and soul that it was the right thing to do.

Ah. I found it!” She saw what she was looking for and reached out.

One of the orderlies looked down at the old codger who was holding him above the floor so easily. The old man casually glanced at him and frowned. “Don’t. Move.

The orderly looked across to his buddy who was in similar straits. The other man’s eyes were wide open. He was rigid as a statue and white as a ghost. Hard to do for a black man. He croaked. “Seriously...don’t move.
