Chapter 1: The Cave
The unknown might seem scary at first, but what if you got to know it?
I always liked to be near nature whenever I could, I'd go from place to place and venture deep into the forest taking no heed nor worrying too much. I knew exactly what to do when I was alone, so there was never too much for me to worry about. Though there were days where I was not even lost in thought, rather plain and simply bored to the core. And I'd spend that time just searching for random things to do or find, whatever it might be, for my entertainment.
And it was one of those days where I was actively searching for "something", but I didn't quite figure out what this "something" was or rather was meant to be. As I was wandering around the forest and hoping for something to happen, I suddenly hear a sound from nowhere, and at that time I wasn't so sure of what it was exactly. I kept walking forward, deeper and deeper into the forest and then I heard that sound again, the further I went the more frequent and clearer it became, every time I moved forward it felt as if I had to keep on moving, I didn't know why that was the case, neither did I give much thought to it. I could see the ground rising to a higher elevation and at that time I could swear that sound slowly but steadily resembling a voice the higher I went, but it was a very faint voice, but a voice nonetheless, but I couldn't understand it for some reason, but where is it coming from?
Although I could not make out what this voice was saying, I somehow felt that it was calling me and leading somewhere, it must have, why else could I hear it so much more clearly than the initial time of me thinking it was a voice? As I was lost in thought, before I knew any better it eventually led me somewhere alright, it led me to a cave, the odd thing that stroke me was that I have been in this mountainous forest area before, I usually take a different route though, as there is better path not so far away. I was also very much familiar with the area and as far as I'm concerned there used to be no cave here from what I can remember. I actually visited this cave roughly three weeks ago and there was no cave here. Is it even possible for a cave to appear within a span of a couple weeks or has there was always a cave here and I simply that never noticed? Oh well, might as well head home, I said, but then I heard that peculiar voice again, it came from the cave!
I started to move closer to the cave, but then I just noticed that the voice has simply disappeared. I then come back to my senses, although I like a little bit of adventure here and there, strangely enough, I wasn't as careful as I usually am today, or rather until I heard that voice. Perhaps my craving for finding something was too strong? But it couldn't be helped, this seemed very different, I don't know why this is the case either. I felt as if I had to find out the source of that voice which led me here in the first place, and as far as I'm concerned until recently I could it hear coming from this cave.
I approached the cave, as the curiosity got the better of me. And I also thought it would be a good idea if I got a look at the insides of the cave of course from the cave entrance, as I feared that it might collapse on itself or that there was a bear inside. But I quickly gave up on the idea of a bear entering there, as I had a closer look I noticed that it got narrower the further inside one went, so I doubt a bear could fit in there, to begin with. I deduced that it might have formed from an earlier collapse inside which caused the cave to appear in the first place. It was hard to get a good look because of the trees not allowing much sunlight inside the cave, so, getting a clear look inside was next to impossible.
It seemed like confirming my suspicions from the outside wouldn't do much than just waste my time and make the little sunlight that does manage to get inside disappear entirely, as the day didn't last forever. So, I decided to venture closer to the cave's insides of course, as carefully as I could. I somehow I reached around five or so meters inside of the cave. As I went inside it became quite dark, but thankfully my eyes got adjusted to this and because of that I saw that the cave went on further with a steep downward incline and then discovered that this cave was absolutely massive inside and when I look down towards the lower elevation I could see palm-sized or larger rocks and sediment lying everywhere on the floor. As for why this is so, I assume it's because of all the rain over the years which somehow entered inside, it must've dissolved all the limestone which acted as support and have made the rocks fall off the ceiling and walls of the cave and I suppose this also helped loosen the sediment inside, which ended up making the cave even larger inside and probably led the much thinner outer wall give in and collapse. It appears that I wasn't wrong in my earlier deduction from what I can see, the cave entrance must've formed very recently but the hollow part is due to time and withering, looks like fears were not unfounded after all.
I couldn't hear the voice which called me and venturing deeper inside the cave might be too dangerous without being prepared with the right knowledge and equipment. I decided that It would be a better idea to come the next day, the sun was quick going down and it started to become very hard to see anything inside. And for some reason, I feared that I couldn't explore this place again if I tried tomorrow, but knows maybe the cave will stay intact the next day too? I can't imagine it to collapse completely and shut off the entrance that quickly either. It quite odd that I couldn't hear that voice anymore as soon as I came near the cave. Oh well, no point in thinking too much on this topic at this rate it'll lead me nowhere.
And so, I decided to head home and start preparing for tomorrow's venture into the cave grounds...
