The Stone of Wisdom (part 3)

Keth chuckled at his Grandfather’s joke, then attempted to clear his mind. He inhaled, filling his lungs to full capacity, in an attempt to recreate his last experience. With eyes closed, he held that breath… Then exhaled.

Nothing happened.

He peeked through his eyelids.

Karlios calked his head, as if to say. “What exactly are you doing?”

He closed his eyelids tightly, attempting to force his will into submission. He took in a full breath once again. This time he felt the moss and carrot which he held in his hand. He pictured them in his mind's eye. Green fluff in his left hand fresh carrot in his right. With the help of his imagination, he started to see them, their image materializing in his mind. Disconnecting his consciousness from the sensation of holding them, he focused only on the image he now firmly held within his mind. With the release of his breath the imagined world which he had created shattered.

He found himself before a strange land stretching as far as he could see. It radiated an emerald green glow, massive craters, pits, hills, and valleys was all that could be seen as he hovered above its surface. He slowly rose in elevation in an attempt to gain perspective of this alien world. With greater altitude he noticed that a bit of curvature was beginning to appear in one direction, he continued to gain height. After some time, he began to understand what he was viewing. This strange land he was viewing, was in fact the carrot that his body held within its right hand.

Keth found the experience of viewing the vegetable from such a micro level was rather disorientating. It took what seemed to be an hour, for him to acquire basic mastery of his faculties, another half hour later he was speeding along the surface at incredible speeds. Having no body to interact with the surrounding environment, he found that he could ascend and descend with great ease and tremendous velocity.

As a child, first discovering it’s ability to control their own dreams, Keth fell into ecstasy from the freedom which this disembodied adventure brought. All the thoughts, cares, and responsibilities of the outside world were gone. For perhaps the first time in his life, he was living solely in his current endeavor.

Eventually the novelty of exploring this wondrous world which was the carrot, began to fade, it came to his recollection that he came here with a purpose. He found it difficult to think in this exotic realm. As he struggled to remember his mission, a resounding voice spoke.

“Look as deep as you can.” The words came from nowhere, but seemed to echo back from all directions.

His mission was once again in the forefront of his mind. Unsure of the outcome, Keth plunged into the emerald landscape. He passed through the would be ground and found that it posed zero resistance. As he journeyed through the carrot, he observed that most of its core appeared to be of a solid uniform structure. It did have voids and caverns from time to time, but it appeared to be of the same material that the surface was. The next thing he knew he had burst through the other end. He stopped, turned around and looked upon the landscape. He attempted to think, feeling as though he was missing something.

“Look as deep as you can.” The voice echoed around him.

He descended back to the ground and examined it. Studying the surface he made out a tiny black dot amongst the emerald ground, as though it was a grain of sand set on an otherwise clean canvas. He tried to focus on it.

His world once again changed.

The tiny black dot now stood before him as a colossal boulder. This sight startled Keth and he attempted to retreat, in doing so he found himself once again staring at the tiny dot. Astonished by this new level of control, he now felt he truly understood the meaning behind the words. His mission was now attainable.

He descended once again into the carrot. Focusing on the emerald green glowing matter, it magnified. He repeated the process, with each level of magnification new properties began to manifest themselves. The emerald green aura would change to distinct patterns indistinguishable at prior levels. Keth repeated this process until he could go no further. By this point very little of the matter was actually connected to its surroundings. He noted the repeated pattern of different shapes and colors. The would be, building blocks of the carrot.

Keth then thought of the moss, which his body held in its left hand. Like magic, he was now within a massive jungle of lime green vines. He focused on the closest vine and magnified, to the extend of his ability. He could see the code that comprised the building blocks of the moss.

Unsure how he would compare the two he attempted to recall the carrots code. As he did this, his vision split. Projected before him was the code of the moss, to the left and the code of the carrot, to the right. Many of the same base elements were present within each of them, but were arranged in different orders. Some were of differing colors and shapes. He knew what was required to change the code to match the other. Unfortunately, he was unsure how to accomplish it.

Keth went to take a deep breath. But he had no lungs to take in the air. In fact, there was no air. For his consciousness was split within a carrot and a ball of moss. The ridiculous reality of his current position would have made him laugh, if he had access to his body, but he did not. So instead he just thought about the required change.

The image on his left started to shift, just a bit. A circle became a square, lime green morphed into emerald. The simplicity of this operation would have frustrated Keth, if not for its mesmerizing display. One by one the needed changes were occurring, until before him sat identical codes. He looked to the left, then back to the right. Everything matched.

The image to his left collapsed as he began to pull out of the magnified state that he was in. He was once again looking at the emerald green alien landscape. He pulled out further and could now see that the once bright emerald green carrot, looked dull in comparison to the brilliant blue hand that held it. He pulled out further yet and could now see that the once lime green moss was now emerald green as well, although it was still in the shape of the original moss.

Keth marveled at the awe inspiring aura that his body now emanated. He looked up. Looking down on him was a figure whose aura was encased in a subtle light blue, but within the blue shell raged a storm of dark red, purple, and gray. What...

His vision collapsed.

Back in his body Keth gasped for air. His vision slowly returned from blackness. The glass in his veins subsided. He took a few deep breaths to recompose himself. He looked up to find Karlios eagerly looking down at him.

“Sorry it took so long.” Keth sheepishly expressed.

“Nonsense, you have gone no longer than a minute... Well?”

Keth opened his hand to reveal the moss shaped carrot.

“Hmm, nothing much to look at.” As Karlios grabbed the newly formed carrot, then proceeded to take a bite out of it. It gave a series of satisfying crunches as he bit down through its misshapen mass.

“Tastes alright. Well done, this may save your life someday. Doesn’t really matter its shape as long as all the nutrients are there.
Now that you know how to look deeply into an object, I suggest you go to your workshop and examine your stone.”

Keth wanted to protest, he wanted to ask about what he had seen.

“Well, what are you waiting for? No time like the present.” The Elder walked to a shelf and began to tinker with some random object, completely ignoring Keth.

Feeling a bit dejected, The younger man reluctantly rose. He placed the white stone into his satchel and walked down the stairs and made his exit.

This is chapter 3.3 of my Steemit Novel.

I will be attempting to complete the next section as soon as possible, but I have no idea as to exact time tables of when this will be. Your support would certainly help start a fire under me and help this project move forward with more force.

If any "Artists." are interested in making some "original" cover art inspired by my writing. I would be happy to showcase your work in future posts. I will link to your profile or website, giving you full credit for your hard work. If interested comment with your image on this post.

I currently would rather not use for myself the "services" of upvote bots or any of the other pay to play options available on Steemit. (Please do not be offended if you do use these services, frankly I don't care who does. But personally I would rather only get upvotes inspired by or from real, live, breathing, interested parties, if someone wants to pay for these services on my behalf I would view that as the same as a personal upvote. I just don't want to self promote.) This does leave me as a little guppy at a disadvantage to those who do use these services. The only way I can think of to offset this is to give real live people an opportunity to upvote me outside of the 7 days. I will be attempting to leave a comment each week, until the next chapter is complete. If you would like to help partner with me in this work please feel free to upvote my latest comment. I know of no other way to allow people to reward this work beyond the 7 day limit. If this practice is in violation of any rules please inform me with links to said rules. Thank you.

Had to go and read previous sections wow you have such a way with words to spin a story we’re all drawn into

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. I think for the 2 chapters and prelude, I need to edit and re-upload in one post(with declined payment). I didn't know that I could edit posts for like my first month. :) Hopefully with time I can get at least a few dozen regular readers. I very much appreciate hearing your thoughts on it.

It’s a big learning curve at the start if you have any questions feel free to ask 😎👍

ohhh, you uploaded. I'll read it once I'm done gaming for the night.

and then? ....... LOL

He walked away into the sunset... The End... Yay my first novel.

Sorry mate, It's difficult to balance writing, work, family. If only I could write full time. Oh the dream.

Well, I was a bit disappointing in your ending ... but on the whole .... ROFL.
Was just voicing my anxiousness to see the next part, no stress :-P

Well I think you will like the next post, just need to find a couple hours of undisturbed time to write it. lol I think I've established enough of the world to move on a bit more with the story. I'm very excited to write the next part. :) Thank you for your support. It's nice to hear a bit of feed back, even if it's just one or two voices. :P I'd almost rather get comments with feedback on the story than upvotes, I'm not quite sure if people are understanding my writing style or not. To be honest both would be good, but beggars can't be choosers, I'll take whatever I can get. Maybe in six months people will start to read it. Lol ain't Steemit grand.
