Chapter 32: Trash Talking
The following morning was a Wednesday and Blair and Justin stood in front of a very familiar safe and once again opening up another envelope, it read:
'You are getting much closer to 'curing' your tumor. You will now be going back approximately one year after you were in a coma as a little boy. Go to the following coordinates and date. There will be a nearby alley. Proceed down the alley about 100 feet. You will see a huge green trash bin. Climb inside. It will be clear what to do after that.
Blair and Justin just stared at each other in disbelief.
"Really?", questioned Justin. "Those are very strange directions. Do you think my directions were tampered with by the people who were bugging us?"
"I doubt it.", replied Blair. "Besides, what other choices do you have?"
"Good point. I have no other options."
With that being said, Justin approached his time traveling device and sat down.
"I will see you on the other side again.", said Blair.
Justin found himself in an old abandoned building. He looked around while his cloned body was growing. Outside of the window and across the street, he could see the alley.
'This is the shortest trip I've ever had to go since I began.' , he thought.
After a few minutes he entered his body and proceeded to cross the street and walk down the alley. In the distance he could see a couple of trash cans and a green trash bin next to a back door. The green trash bin was positioned in front of a lower window. This alley appeared to be the back of many small warehouse businesses. There appeared to be a few back doors and windows along the alley.
'I can't believe I am actually going to climb inside this thing.', thought Justin.
Justin pulled himself up and climbed inside. The trash bin was empty except for one envelope. On the outside of the envelope it read. 'Justin'.
'What is this? Why would I put myself on some kind of a scavenger hunt?'
He opened the envelope and pulled out a piece of paper. It read:
'In a few moments, you will need to react very fast. Next to this trash bin are a couple of metal trash cans with lids. Use them. I am in too much of a hurry to go into detail. The other thing you must do is this. After you return back. Do not open your safe until Saturday at 1:00 pm exactly. No later. No earlier. This is critical. Also...' Justin thought that he must of been in a hurry as the letter seemed unfinished and the writing seemed rushed.
"We need to be quiet now.", said a young boy's voice who was approaching. Justin thought he could here two very light footsteps approaching him. Justin remained as quiet as he could be. A couple minutes later he heard a door open and close from what seemed like the inside of the adjacent warehouse.
Then he heard footsteps within getting louder and then they stopped.
A couple minutes later, he heard a door open and close again.
"Hey Ben. Are you here?", said a hoarse voice.
"Of course I'm here. Come to this back room and have a seat where we can talk."
"You must be Wheels. I have heard good things about you."
"Yeah. That is me. AJ told me you need a driver. Tell me the details and my cut of the pie."
"I want you to listen and listen carefully. We can't afford screw ups. We are going to rob Gershwin Jewelers."
Justin heard a soft shriek that came from outside the bin. "Did you hear something?"
"No.", said two voices from inside the warehouse at the same time.
"Continue Ben."
Ben continued, "I have been study Gershwin for a few weeks now and they are perfect. They are a very small store, but are located in a very ritzy part of town. They have millions of dollars in inventory. Their business hours are from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. It gets dark around 6:00 pm now, so we will get there at 6:50 pm. Just ten minutes before closing. All the jewelry is locked in glass display cases. There are video cameras so we all need to wear black clothing with a black ski mask over our heads. There are two exits. One in the front and one conveniently in the back alley. We will enter through the front. And Wheels you will be waiting for us in the back alley."
"The owner always closes up by himself and usually excuses the last employee around 6:00 pm. A.J, we are going to park a block away and walk to the jewelry store. We will put on our masks right before we enter. The first thing you need to do A.J., is point your gun straight at the owner's head and tell him not to move.", emphasized Ben.
Ben went on, "While you have your gun pointed in his face, I will be breaking the glass jewelry cases and stuffing the jewelry in my bag. He has an alarm. According to my estimation, regardless if the alarm is silent or not, we have nine minutes before the pigs arrive. That is plenty of time. We will be staying for only six minutes. That gives Wheels three minutes to clear us out. We should be a mile away. Now Wheels, I want you to drive a normal speed limit unless we have an emergency. Understand?"
"Of course, I don't want to raise attention. But believe me, if something goes wrong they won't catch us.", said Wheels.
Suddenly, little Blair let out a sneeze.
"Go check it out.", came a voice from inside.
Justin could hear little Blair and little Justin running away. He then heard the back door of the warehouse open. Justin quickly stood up and saw a man running past the bin with a gun in his hand. As Justin stealthily jumped out the trash bin he heard a shot. In a split second, he quickly grabbed the metal trash can lid and in one motion, leaped back towards the targeting gunman. As he started to pull the trigger, BANG. Justin hit him so hard with the lid, the man collapsed to the ground unconscious. Justin quickly turned around and ran in the opposite direction and out of the alley. As he turned the corner out of the alley, he realized he still had the metal trash can lid in his hand. The lid was so contorted, he wondered if he killed the man. He rushed back to the vacant warehouse where he discarded the trash can lid and waited for his trip back. As he waited he could feel his heart pounding.
