The Summit

Fresh olive bread, two small glasses of champagne, carpaccio, grapes and dates. Everything came out his backpack when he had opened it. A picnic blanket for them to sit on. A small speaker with some relaxed jazz music. It was as if he could see right through her what she liked. They spent hours as it seemed on the summit of this beautiful mountain.

What a dream date this was. They had been chatting for weeks already before they had decided to meet up. She was kind of hesitant because she had just come out of a longer relationship. She was not ready to give her heart away to some fool, she was waiting for a decent man. Hours and hours they had spend texting, sending pictures and calling each other. And now the moment was there on this Sunny afternoon for their rendez-vous.

It was as if they had known each other forever. The connection was there from second one. They walked up the mountain without losing eye contact the whole time. At a certain moment he had taken her hand. She felt a warm feeling gushing through her as he had gently kissed her. Cautious for her feelings, but steadily towards his goal. She could only think about how much she fancied this gentleman, and how fast he had stolen her heart.

The picnic was like a dream on the summit. They enjoyed the view over the lake, as well as they enjoyed each other. With the food and the music it was like an all inclusive experience. She had thought she would never feel like this again after her previous relationship. But she did. He kissed her again.

Their kiss was loudly interrupted by an extremely loud noise behind her. She quickly turned her head and looked into a pitch black sky. While they had been enjoying everything on the summit, a gigantic thunderstorm had creeped up on them. Unprepared as they had walked up they had nothing with them for shelter, not even a raincoat. When they left in the morning the weather still had seemed perfect with blue skies. But she had heard that the weather in the mountains could change very fast. She was looking towards the perfect example of that, this black cloud was not only the darkest she had ever seen in her life, it was also flashing on every side. A thunderstorm.

‘Run as fast as you can, the ground is filled with metal’

She looked beneath her and saw how red the rock was. Why had she not seen this on the way up. Her brain was connecting all the dots. They were on a iron filled mountain ground with no shelter and nothing with them, and this gigantic storm was about to electrocute them both. He took her hand and pulled her along with him. They ran as fast as they possibly could over the rocks, but that was not easy on this steep hill. She tripped a couple of times but he managed to keep her up and running. How far did they even have to run before they were safe again.

With a gigantic flash and the loudest sound they had ever heard they were thrown to the ground. It was hot and cold all at the same time, and then it was only dark. It had been such a lovely date.
