Evolution of the Colony

They lived on a planet orbiting a K-class red dwarf sun. They called their planet Muskerth, but had no idea why. They weren’t native to this world, but having lived there for over a million years, they no longer had any memory or their origins, not even in myth and legend. In fact, in their pastoral pre-technological world they couldn’t even conceive of space travel, much less the fact that their ancestors had, over a million years ago, arrived on this planet to create a new colony and support the further expansion of the human race.

While the planet was comfortably with the habitable zone of its mother star, it was still a hot planet none-the-less. Ample water and a steady year-long temperature of roughly 30 degrees celsius led to tropical conditions, and a culture and society which is in-line with such.

That is to say it was a relaxed culture. The weather and climate ensured that food was plentiful, and the planet itself ensured that water was plentiful. The inhabitants were mostly hunters and gatherers and enjoyed pleasurable undertakings. Art was widely celebrated, as was dance. Because they were constantly moving they were also an athletic and well developed people, which led to an appreciation of the human form. Needless to say, sex was a common and popular form of recreation.

One strange mechanism on this new planet, and one which threatened to wipe out the original colonists, was a contraceptive property of the fruits and vegetables on the planet. This built-up over time, and made it impossible for a woman to get pregnant, although the inhabitants now had no idea of how this mechanism worked.

What they did know was that every 20 years (or every 60 seasons as measured on Muskerth), a pulsing red light would enter their evening sky, remaining for just a short period of time, and followed soon after by mass pregnancies. It had always been this way.

This time was a time of celebration all across Muskerth, and the denizens of the world, who were already extremely sexually active, spent most of this time cavorting, naked and in a state of arousal. This wasn’t a natural state though. It was specifically caused by that pulsing red light in the sky. For in fact that pulsing red light was another planet, with an elliptical orbit that kept it far from Muskerth at most times.

Yet when it came close to its distant sister planet its own inhabitants, who were smaller than the naked eye could see, launched themselves across the void to the more hospitable Muskerth. They arrived in the planet’s atmosphere as a silver shower – a mist in fact – that the natives of Muskerth had taken to calling “Lovejuice”, because of its property of cancelling out the contraceptive effects of their planet, and also because of the orgies it precipitated with its aphrodisiac effects.

Because the pulsing red light had just entered the sky recently, Tadan was travelling to the capital city with his sister and their best friends. They were all just shy of their 20th birthdays and this would be their first experience with Lovejuice. They talked excitedly of the upcoming orgies, and the girls especially were excited with the prospect of becoming pregnant and continuing the habitation of Muskerth.

They headed towards the crowded capital because they had been taught since birth that Lovejuice is best shared between 2 or more people rather than simply sprayed all over yourself! Soon they would be sharing Lovejuice with all the thousands who lived in the capital in the epic Lovejuice festival.
