Hello guys, @pasaift here.
Decided to try my hand on fiction writing, so here goes.

I wasn't the type that fancied airplanes. Yeah, they were cool but I just didn't see myself boarding one. Well, i didn't travel that much, and anytime i needed to i always boarded a bus. My friends would ask why i hated flying, and i would answer them saying flying was just not my thing. Truth was, I was scared of heights and Always wondered that if something were to go wrong, there'd be no escape for me as I would be stuck in a floating metal. So I stuck to what I could manage, travel my road.
I worked at a small company then, with a low salary. I did manage it but always looked up vacancies in major companies and sent my CV incase luck would shine on me. I travelled alot during that period because it was from one interview session to another. Getting a high paying job was not feasible. I reached out to relatives, incase any could help. For a while there was nothing, till one day my uncle called me and said there was an opening in the company he worked. He said due to his influence, I did not need to do anything but just come for the interview and my employment would be guaranteed. The interview was a week from that day so I planned travelling 2 days before it, because the location was in a far away state. Journey by road would take me almost a day.
Two days later, I was awoken by the ringing of my phone. It was my uncle that called. He wanted to notify me that the interview date had been changed, that it had been brought closer to 3pm that day and I should find my way to his house. Wow! This was something that made me freeze. I froze because I couldn't beat the time if I travelled by road, the only option was to take a flight.
I actually considered telling him that I was sick, and wouldn't be able to make it. But that would be me being silly as many others looked for opportunities like these, and the job was actually high paying. After hours of thinking, I finally decided that I would travel by flight.
To be continued, be sure to checkback for the continuation.

I understand the feeling cause I used to have the same issue, it was actually a phobia then.
Thank God I confronted that fear and I think you should do same.

Fear of flying keeps a lot of people at home. The stakes are high, the character has good motivation for attempting something he fears. How will he overcome that fear to get on a plane?
