Dwarves of the different Mythologies:
The Dwarves are small, sturdy and sturdy, with short and sturdy limbs. They wear a beard, sometimes braided, and have long hair. They are great blacksmiths, excellent miners and unmatched stonemasons, and are often the most skilled armourers of all. They are generally the origin of the magic and famous objects of the different Mythology.
They love the Mountains and the Stone, and live in underground cities dug deep in rocky caverns.
Their lifestyle makes them have an extremely piercing view in the Black, and the Dwarves can see up to 3 meters in total darkness, and in the weakest light, up to 30 meters. They are also very resistant to the most extreme temperatures, whether heat or cold.
In Nordic Mythology:
Dwarves were created before men. They come from the corpse of the first giant Ymir. The God Odin and his two brothers used the body of the latter to create trees, rocks and seas, they discovered worms crawling in the wounds of the dead man. They gave them the form of a man, but obliged them to remain under the land which was their abode.
Contrary to what we think, the dwarves of the Nordic world (also sometimes called Black Elves) are not particularly small, but generally very hideous. Mythology speaks of gigantic dwarfs (the four dwarves located at the cardinal points and supporting the celestial vault for example), tiny, others the size of a human. On the other hand, they are well associated with the underground world.
These dwarves live in the mountains of Germany and Scandinavia, from which they extract the precious metals, to make magic objects (such as Miolnir, Thor's hammer, the string used to tie up the giant wolf, the Necklace of the Brising, the Necklace of Freya, the Goddess of Love).
It is also sometimes said that they hate showing their feet because they are always more or less deformed: they are for example bird's legs, or they are front-back. Thus, they always wear clothes that go down to the ground.
It is also said that they can not show themselves in the light of day, under pain of being transformed into stone (a characteristic that is found in Tolkien attributed to the Trolls ...), and they would pass, according to legend, the day in the form of toads.
Unlike Elves, they can be deceitful and dangerous.
In the Mythology of Middle-earth:
In English, the word "dwarf" is dwarf whose plural is dwarfs. Tolkien, to distinguish his fictitious creatures, used the word dwarves for the plural. According to the mythology of Professor Tolkien, they were created by Aulë to endure the power of Melkor.
They are sturdy, sturdy, resistant (to pain, to the weather), measuring about 1.50 meters and wearing beards (be it dwarfs, dwarfs or dwarf children). They live about 250 years and dwarfs represent about one third of the population. For this reason their population is on the decline.
They speak Khuzdul.
These Dwarves are not afraid of daylight, and have no deformations. They are the descendants of the seven fathers, who were created by Aulë, the Lord of the earth and the blacksmith of the Valars. They fear, however, the great expanses of water. They live in closely related groups, and are suspicious, pugnacious and greedy, but loyal and calm.
They are specialized in mining: they have built the mines of Moria (Khazad-dûm) and more widely over much of the Middle Earth. Not only are the dwarves very good craftsmen, creating well-known weapons in mid-earth, such as Narsil, Dor-lómin's Dragon Helm or Angrist, thus promoting trade with elves (especially the Noldor elves led by Celebrimbor , the Gwaith-i-Mírdain). But the dwarves are also formidable intrepid warriors, authors of high-arms at the battle of Azanulbizar, or Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Innumerable Tears. They never retreat, and their promise, if given, never fails.
They despise the Orcs, the Wargs, and above all the dragons, who often encroach on their territory and are certainly as greedy as they are. Many treasures of dragons contain dwarf objects.
They also have a great mistrust of the Elves, and this enmity is very well known in Middle-earth.
It is only in Peter Jackson's trilogy that the dwarf sprinter and dwarf throwing are discussed (a sport that was very successful in Australia and New Zealand before being banned).
The Dwarves possessed seven rings of power. The last was held by Thrôr, then Thraïn, whom Sauron took from him when he was captured.
The Dwarf hero of the Lord of the Rings is Gimli who became friends with a Legolas Elf and was the first Dwarf to enter Lórien (since the time of Durin) and to be entirely devoted to Galadriel.
So much for the dwarves and their mysterious world !!!
