Chapter 25

The two brothers are clashing in the cavern, and Derek manages to get Adam down for the count with a stiff kick to the head that knocks him loopy for a moment.

Derek takes time to collect himself and looks for his gun, bu then takes a look at the missile that's ready for launch. Derek's plans for have not gone the way he wanted, but he can still launch the missile and make a statement.

In his mind, his message of a revolution will be heard and he will live in infamy, even if his plans to stop The Order were put on ice.

Derek finds his gun on the ground and approaches the missile's launch control pad.

"Today wasn't quite the day I was expecting it to be, brother dear. But I'll have my victory anyway. And the best part? You're going to watch me do it. You just couldn't help yourself, could you? You could have just saved Maria and gotten away, but no. Not you, Adam. Your naive sense of heroism got the best of you, again. And for what? The government? The people? Huh? The same country that you sacrificed everything for that threw you away. Because that's how it goes! We're all expendable, an acceptable loss. They take what they need, and throw us away. Every time."

Derek punches in the launch code, and begins the sequence.

"But you only find value in life when you stand for something, no matter how fake. But you never stand for yourself, that's your problem. You always need to be the hero. You always need to save the day. That's the only thing you know, Adam. Being the hero. So I gave you what you wanted. You can die a hero, Adam."

The timer shows the time until the launch: 01h00min, 59min59s...

"We'll both die here, but I'm the one the world will remember."

Outside the White House, Bruce Miller is talking to his phone, anxiously waiting for someone.

"Just hurry up, we're running out of time! We need to get Maria and Adam out of there before the government bombs the place to bits. Where are you know? Well, we may not have fifteen minutes! Try to get here as fast as you can!"

Just as Bruce disconnects the call and places the phone in the front pocket of his coat, he is grabbed from behind, placing a chloroform rag on his face.

Bruce tries to fight it, but eventually passes out.

The large man wearing a black suit then takes Miller to the backseat of a car and ties him up before making a call of his own.

"Miller's no longer a problem, sir. Yes, sir. Thank you, sir."

The call is disconnected and the man drives the car away.

The President has gathered his administration in the oval office to officially give the order to military commander to bomb the terrorist base before the strike can happen. He is not happy about giving the order while a known hostage is still in the base, but feels that a tough choice must be made to ensure the safety of the country.

"Alpha Delta 09234 Delta. The launch is a go."

The President has a heavy heart about this, and almost hopes for an intervention, but nothing occurs. The launch truly is a go and is being prepared.

Kevin leads Silverman and his men through the base towards the cavern, and as they stop, is being handed a weapon, but is still being held at gunpoint by Silverman's men, since he is a long way from gaining the trust of the organization, not to mention of Silverman. Silverman sends Kevin to his final assignment before gaining just that.

"Make sure Adam stops Derek from making the launch, and if he doesn't do it yourself. Then bring Adam to us. Do this, and we'll talk about a larger role for you in our organization. Alone."

That's what Kevin has waited for years to hear.

"I'd appreciate that, sir. I won't let you down."
