It was Saturday morning and I woke up early as usual to go about my normal chores and take a bucket of lukewarm water to mom. I opened the door to her room only to be welcomed by the smell of something very unfamiliar (a bad kind of unfamiliar) . I rushed to open the windows to let fresh air in while murmuring to mom why she didn't do it herself, she just sat there starring at me as if I'd Just dropped into the room from the roof. I asked her what she thought made the room smell like that... that was when my mum quietly beckoned on me to sit on the bed. Before I knew what happened she pulled me closer and started reciting what sounded like a last wish, I didn't wait to hear her complete her well prepared speech as I rushed out for help.

Uncle Sam, the granddad nextdoor was just trimming the edges of his flowers when I met him. I explained mum's strange reactions and the funny smell in the room. He was alarmed and before I knew what was happening mom was rushed to the hospital. "she has breast cancer and has been living with it for about 4years now, she might not make it" I heard the doctor telling uncle Sam.I knew this day would come and funny enough I was prepared for it... Or so I thought. I went in to the hospital room she was assigned to in order to say what seemed like a last goodbye, in an attempt to pull the duvet and cover her properly , a portion of her chest was exposed I couldn't believe what I saw. Mom's breast was 'decaying' or should I say 'rotting' all these while and I had no idea. Could these be what she was hiding from the world? Her 'sickness' perhaps.

Finally I couldn't hold it in, a pool of tears streamed down my bony cheeks as I walked down the dark lonely path to an empty house an orphan, as I had always been. I had no idea if mom was going to make it through or not.
