A child shrieks and runs down the sidewalk. Herald smiles and pats Nancy’s head. Cobwebs, bats, and skeletons litter the yard. They really outdid themselves this year.
“I love you, pumpkin,” Herald says.
He sets Nancy’s severed head down on the steps and goes to fetch some more Halloween candy.
