Fighting Frustration - Turn it Around and Win!

Is your mind actively fighting frustration? Have you ever noticed that you start to get angry with yourself for no apparent reason? It happens all the time and to me it seems like it's impossible to control when it's happening, but you can certainly learn how to reduce and even eliminate it. When I'm frustrated, I let my mind wander. I just let it sit there until I decide to take action. I have a friend who told me that she finds her actions when she's frustrated make her feel "calm".

Let's say that you've decided to call an electrician and you get on the phone. You tell the electrician that everything is messed up, and you're expecting him to come out right away. What you don't know is that your actions are actually making everything worse. The electrician won't show up, and now your home is filled with mess. You have to fix it and you don't know what to do.

It's important that your actions are in line with your feelings. In one case, the owner of a business was fighting frustration by continually showing up late to work. This really upped and went beyond irritation and became downright rude. Someone had to step in and tell the boss that he should leave earlier so that things would be under control.

Instead of calming down and being calm, the boss became more irritated because he didn't think that he deserved his notice. He flipped out, which turned him into a short-tempered type of guy. When he calmed down, he realized that he was out of line and decided that he didn't want to deal with anyone who would treat him like that anymore. The lesson was that by taking care of your actions, you can turn them around and make the people around you act the way that you want them to. It doesn't matter if it's verbal or physical.

You have to find a good way to channel your frustration. One way is to simply take a deep breath and get rid of the tension. You can also try to think about something else. Try to relax for a few seconds and clear your head. If you feel like you just need to vent, you can start to yell at a person, but don't do it all the time.

Another thing you can do is figure out why you are frustrated. If you find that you have a problem with something, write it down and figure out what exactly is bugging you about the situation. Then, find a solution to the problem. This one step can often be the answer to many of the conflicts in the workplace.
