Football is not from England but China. The form was originally named cuju (soccer ball), which began to be played since 2-3 century BC. But because the first official organization, the FA (Football Association) formed therein 1863, as well as Guy's Hospital as the oldest club that stood in 1843, Britain credited with making this popular sport. The community's pride in the status of "football country" often triggers the above misconceptions. Early Man did not intend and did not need to care about the fact. According to the film, in addition to destroying the dinosaur population, asteroids play a role in giving birth to soccer.
A fractional asteroid was round with texture like a ball. Beginning by accident, the early humans also found the football. This incident took place in a place that was the forerunner of Manchester. Coupled with a wordplay humour that calls the moment of unity of its protagonists on the ground as "Early Man United", it's easy to guess which clubs are supported by their screenwriters Mark Burton and James Higgins. The story is simple. The caveman named Dug (Eddie Redmayne) from the primitive tribes of the stone age tried to encourage his friends to reclaim their green valley that was evicted by modern bronze troops.
The leader, Lord North (Tom Hiddleston) is willing to return the valley, as Dug and his tribe defeated the bronze age team in a sacred game: soccer. Not too exaggerating, because for many people of England, football is sacred. At least become the most important element of their lives. Burton and Higgins also got a playground to pour out a stack of references, like giving the Queen Bronze Queen Oofeefa (from FIFA) queen's name. The opposing team is Real Bronze, which consists of a mix of top players with (too) expensive but difficult to convert. I was surprised there was no player named Cristiano there.
Not all viewers understand the references, especially children. That's why, instead of putting forward absurd comedy like stop-motion animations of Aardman's previous releases (Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit), a generic slapstick slate is installed. The wild boar Hognob continues Grommit's relay bat as a more intelligent pet than its owner, while its clay visuals show a compelling detail as well as a unique texture in which the audience seems to be able to see the artist's fingerprints. But without more creativity in the comedy department, Early Man failed to match the charms of his predecessors.
The message to keep fighting regardless of the origin or past can be a valuable lesson for the child's audience. While the character of Goona (Maisie Williams), a pot-selling girl who keeps dreams in action on the football field, women empowerment utterance can be absorbed. Even tribal-stone struggles against bronze-era occupations that like to blackmail people and displace their homes are shouts of rejection for a tyrant government that feels like it will always be relevant. But for football fans, Early Man has another subtext in it.
Tim Dug plays in a red-and-white costume, similar to what Bobby Moore and colleagues wore when they won the 1966 World Cup in their own country. Real's mainstay player Bronzio is Jurgen, who is undoubtedly from Germany, who was England's opponent in the 1966 World Cup final (then still West Germany). The end result of both matches was similar, only this film changed the difference in the score to 1 digit in order to maintain dramatic nuances. Nuances that failed to be realized maximally due to the execution of Nick Park against the climax is not imaginative enough, exciting, or thrilling.
