On Halloween night 1963 six year old Michael Myers murdered his sister, fifteen years later he escapes from a mental hospital and returns to his home town to kill again. While is former psychiatrist and detainer Dr Loomis is hot on his tail, Myers sets his murderous sights of teen Laurie Strode and her friends.
Halloween became the most successful horror movie of all-time, from a budget of $300,000 the film grossed £47 million, which in 2018 is the equivalent of is almost £182 million. Of course stats like that have been surpassed significantly. In 1999 The Blair Witch Project was made for a mere $60,000 and brought in $248 million at the box office, which adjusted for inflation is close to £376 million.
It was voted the fifth scariest film of all-time by Entertainment Weekly, and in 2006 it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. Films are selected for being culturally, historically or aesthetically significant. Other films that year included Blazing Saddles, Groundhog Day and Rocky.
