Scrooge (1951)
Directed by Brian Desmond Hurst. Starring Alastair Sim, Jack Warner, Kathleen Harrison, George Cole, Mervyn Johns, Michael Hordern, Miles Malleson, and Ernest Thesiger.
Ebenezer Scrooge is a miserly moneylender without an once of Christmas spirit, that is until the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future show him through a series of flashbacks, sidesteps and predictions in an effort to show him the error of his ways, so he too will not end up damned like his former business partner.
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without some version of Charles Dickens’ classic morality tale gracing your TV screen, and while most will gravitate towards Muppet Christmas Carol…because it’s magnificent…you will be hard-pressed to find a better Scrooge than Alastair Sim.
