Swiss actor Bruno Ganz, famous for roles like that of Adolf Hitler in the controversial German film Der Untergang, also known as Downfall, died this Saturday at age 77 in his native Zürich.
Born on March 22, 1941, from a Swiss father who worked as a mechanic and an Italian, Ganz developed his artistic career in film, television and theater in the German language for more than half a century. Last year, doctors diagnosed that the actor suffered from intestinal cancer, so he began treatment with chemotherapy that forced him to stop acting. Ganz was a carrier of the Iffland-Ring, which traditionally carries who has been considered best actor in the German language at the time, and that his death must inherit another actor.
Just a week ago I referred to him for his performance in the last film by Lars von Trier, The House That Jack Built:
I was pleasantly surprised to find Bruno Ganz in the film, an actor known for his famous performance of Adolf Hitler in the film Der Untergang, also known as Downfall, and he also does well; I will try to see more films in which he acts.
