All the latest Movieland investigations from detectives Dick Japowski and Joey Arizona.

The Many Views of Detective Dick Japowski
World Gone Wild (1988)
Bruce Dern going head to head against a deranged Adam Ant in the apocalypse and also playing as a loose magnificent seven remake. If that doesn't sound like the best pitch for a movie ever I don't know what does!
Cheap and cheerful with great set design, wild stunts and a closing title track from Mr 🐜. I'm adamant you give this a watch.

The Arizona Case Files
Return of the Living Dead (1985)
A young punk gets a job at a medical supply warehouse, in the basement are misplaced military experiments, and someone thinks it's a good idea to open them...and things spiral out of control hard and fast.
I hated this movie when I first saw it back in the day, wasn't a fan of the sequel either (although 3 is awesome), it's funny how your opinions/taste changes over time. Definitely going to to have to revisit the second one now.

The Many Views of Detective Dick Japowski
Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood (2019)
A coming to the end of his cycle actor and his sometime stuntman and confidante navigate the ups and downs of Hollywood in the late 60's.
Quentin tarrintino wants everyone to know how much he loves and knows about old movies and television in this love letter to a neon lit L.A. that doesn't exist anymore. Painstakingly recreating streets, landmarks and people. And if a little less focused than some of his previous movies, there is still lots to love, especially the two leads Pitt and DiCaprio when on screen together. Not sure where the ending sits with me but that's just Hollywood!

The Arizona Case Files
City Slickers (1991)
Mitch Robbins is unhappy, with his job, his life, his world in general. Luckily his friends regularly talk him into ridiculous adventures, and this time they're going on a cattle drive.
Some great jokes, some great chemistry between friends Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby and Daniel Stern, but you realise Crystal's catchphrase his just him saying "heeellooo!!" and he says it a lot.

The Arizona Case Files
About Time (2013)
When He turns 21 Tim discovers he can travel through time and alter the events of his life. It's Richard Curtis does Time Travel, so it's all about finding the right girl, self-discovery, and being so very middle class.
This isn't the kind of film I'd usually revisit, but there were extenuating circumstances honest Guv'.

About Time.jpg

The Arizona Case Files
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)
In late sixties Hollywood a former TV actor struggles to make the leap to the big time, his faithful stunt double has become his chauffeur and right-hand man, while his neighbours are the talk of the town.
Not the synopsis you'd expect from a Tarantino movie, but then this isn't you're usual kind of Tarantino movie, it's beautifully crafted love letter to Hollywood of days gone by, with plenty of QT's trademark artistic flourishes, and an ending you don't see coming.

I always loved Return of the Living Dead. I was probably around 12 when I first saw it though. I remember the sequels less well but I liked those too.
