Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) - Lets talk film / Gambling, Drugs and Antiques

Have you ever saw had this feeling where you have seen a movie or read a book and you are telling everyone how good this movie or the book was to you friends, but when your friends asks you to tell what is it about or what is the story, you kind of don't remember anything. Its a feeling like you woke up from a dream, where you don't remember anything. This is the exact feeling I got when I watched "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". It is one of the best movies I had ever watched, but when I tried to explain it to others, it felt impossible.

This is the debut film of director Guy Ritchie. The Movie is almost like an anthology, but it has a lot going on at the same time and it is funny as hell. Well here's how it starts, four friends pool in all the money they have on a card game to win a fortune. One of the four friends will be a card shark and everyone will know his capabilities. But, the card game which will be against a gangster will be rigged and they loose everything. On top of that they will be owing a lot of money to the gangster. The movie is about how these four men hustle their way to pay the money back.

One of the most unique things about this film are the characters. They are all so vivid and fun, this is a character driven story. I am still in love with the father and son duo, where the father is a gangster and he takes his 10 year old son everywhere and makes sure that his son doesn't learn any of his business. They are all fun and I just laughed like I never had before.

The fact that this film cannot be put into one single genre set it apart. There is heist, there is a drug battle, there are shoot out and the movie is funny as hell. Its something you have to watch to get the experience. By the way the stories unfold you may remember the style of Quentin Tarantino. But, Guy Ritchie definitely has his own style that is very distinct.
