Roman Holiday - Lets talk film / When princess becomes the queen

in film •  7 years ago

A princess escapes out of her sheltered life and finds herself in the middle of Rome and will be witnessing the life of an ordinary person, while this is happening an American reporter recognizes her and will be slowly making friendship with her to take advantage of it. Yes, today's film is "Roman Holiday". I saw this film after I watched the movie "Trumbo", where there is a  scene where Dalton Trumbo wins an Oscar for writing this film. This film is one of the best rom-coms I have ever watched. What makes it the best is its simplicity.

The movie start Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn, they both are fantastic in it. The movie mainly follows the princesses character for the most parts and what it captures is the culture shock she feels when she is out of her sheltered life. Her innocence is childlike and she will make anyone fall in love with her. For the most part Gregory Peck's character is portrayed slightly as an opportunist, but soon the movie focuses on their relationship.

I think this is really an important film, between the lines of its comedy it reveals life of a common man working for paychecks and a life of  a princess who doesn't need to worry about money. Usually they are facing the opposite direction, but this is probably the first that shows both of these people as friends and having fun with each other.

If you have watched the film, then you will definitely remember the scene where the princess Peck puts his hand inside the mouth of truth and when he removes it the hand has disappeared and Hepburn will be scared to death. I really enjoy this scene every time I watch it. I sometimes wait for this scene to come while watching this film.

This movie is rom-com, but the comedy is pure. The simplicity of this movie is really inspiring. By using very little characters the movies weaves out a great story that stood the test of time and became a classic. Another scene that I like the most is the scooter tour where they both end up in police station. The movie is filled with tiny moments that are like gold nuggets. This film also features a climax that is awe inspiring. One of the best climaxes I have ever come across.
