I just finished, watching "Wild wild country", I must say if this is one of those things that is too hard to believe. If this was made like a usual TV series I would have never believed even if they had shown the facts. The incident took place in a small retirement village called Antelope. Out of no where a huge number of people wearing maroon colored clothes seems to be appearing and settling next to the village. They all gather up and within a year they build their own city "Rajneeshpuram". Because of their weird and cult like lifestyle the American citizens will be worried. This forms a lot of disturbance and war like situation between them.
The maroon colored clothes bearers are Rajneeshis, they are the followers of Bhagwan Rajneesh. Bhagwan Rajneesh is a visionary who is trying to create a new form of lifestyle and who believes that the way we live normally is crooked and there is no joy in it. Rajneesh's vision is to make a city where there is a lot of joy and harmony and where anything and everything can happen. People who fell into his vision became his followers and soon his disciples were in hundreds of thousands, they all will help him get to his vision.
What is really interesting about this documentary is how a simple man with a simple vision made thousands and thousands of people follow him to help him make his vision come real. He claims not to be a part of any religion and he also claims that he isn't a god man, he believed that east was all about spirituality and the west was all about materialism. He thought that when eastern philosophy and western philosophy were merged a new man is created. And this new man will be living the most happiest of the lives. This made everyone chase this guru, because other guru's didn't allow materialism in their spirituality.
There was a lot of sex, alcohol and money running around. His disciples were having their time of their lives and they all loved to be in Rajneeshpuram. But, things got really messed up, when the native people of Antelope couldn't just bear any of the chaotic lifestyle the Rajneeshis were doing. They will complain to the government and soon there is a situation of a war.
In this series, there is no way you can make out who is right or who is wrong. It goes up and down, but both the government and the Rajneeshis were doing their job to protect their people. The documentary starts of very slow, but when it takes up the speed it becomes a roller coster ride. You just want to binge it through out. Sometimes its very crazy and very disturbing yet the fact that it all happened in the 80's makes you hooked.
This is not a crime or hoax story its something more than that. Its about a crazy vision which shook the world. It shows how an idea can spread so fast like a wild fire and make the people who follow the idea to do anything and everything to protect their masters. Its a study in human behavior. Highly recommended.

Loved the series on Netflix. Thought it was the best docuseries they've done so far. Great review @nandan!
