Trevin Russell is a sport-loving elementary student in Southwest Michigan, who shadows the athletic talents and abilities of his older brother, Tristin (TJ).
Their father, Timothy Russell, and his longtime friend, Mark Miller, had an idea of recording TJ playing American football and making him a highlight reel to put on YouTube, in 2013.
The views were good and nothing to be disappointed about, and so the videos continued to be released to the "An Uncle Mark Production" channel on YouTube. More of TJ and more of his teammates.
But in 2015, when Trevin was old enough for his first flag football video, something unexpected happen. The number of views generated from his film, was producing over 90% of the entire channel's views!
The 2 creators were stunned and baffled to see such an increase and the numbers that proved it. From that moment, all the pressure was the follow-up video for Trevin's next year of flag football.
With some study, analytic tests, and viewing all the other high-viewed YouTube videos on flag football, the team was ready. Here are the adjustments that were made:
ADDED THE WORD "BEAST" IN THE TITLE
- As simple as that sounds, it attracts a lot of people looking for the best people to view by using words like, "Beast", "Monster", "Best", "Stongest", "Fastest", etc.
TAGGED APPROPRIATELY
- Same applies like in #1: "best flag football", "best football player", "football beast", etc. It's the WORDS you use to catch the attention.
THUMBNAIL CLARITY
- The Thumbnail is truly the first impression on someone browsing. If the thumbnail is drowned out by too many words or is too small to tell what the image is, people will not care to guess. If the image is original and appealing to the eye, the odds of getting a click are increased.
RAW TALENT
- You can't make up how good Trevin was that year for flag football. The footage doesn't lie. If he was not as good athletically as he was for that season, it would definitely not have had as many views as it did.
FINE COMB EDIT
- Have an appealing intro, make sure the music has to match the video theme/speed, put some of the key plays in the beginning to keep the viewers drawn in, and always give music credits to keep on the legit side of video.
Once that was implemented for Trevin's 2016 season of flag football, the numbers SKY-ROCKETED. His videos now covered over 98% of views from over 50 videos on the channel!
He was able to break 1,000,000 views in 12 months & 1 week. During football season, it gathers between 2,000 & 12,000 views per day in 154 countries.
And THAT is the secret gameplan used by the An Uncle Mark Production channel on YouTube to make highlight reel video go viral!
