"Scanning" Film Using A DSLR

in filmphotography •  7 years ago

Since I started developing my own film, I've been stuck without a cost effective way to digitize my photos....until now. I've read up on using a DSLR to "scan" film so I decided to try it out tonight. I can see that the tablet "lightbox" created some serious issues with the pixels showing through, creating that almost linen like texture. I think I'll be attempting a shoe box with a flash tomorrow to see if that alleviates the issue.

Great! What lens have u used? Was it macro?

Yes, I used the 100mm 2.8L with a Canon 5D MkII. :)

she is cool !
good luck with your digitizing process. i still use a scanner

Thank you. I looked at scanners but it was cost and space prohibitive. Trying to make it work with what I already have and it seems like a viable option. From what I’ve read, people are using it quite successfully. I still send my color film to a lab and get scans, but I wanted to learn to develop so I do my own black and white. #filmsnotdead #diyfilmphotography

Sweet capture, nice macro shot of the negative!

Thank you

Very nice capture.

lovely shot indeed. if the shoe box flash thing doesnt work out I've used a lightbox lighttable, the kind for photos or the kind that artists use. they're pretty cheap these days on the ebay and work well.

I’ve been looking at light tables on Amazon, maybe after Christmas...
