QUESTION! Film Photography: Slides (aka Positives)

in filmphotography •  6 years ago

Hey everyone!

So I have a few questions for the curious and savvy film aficionados out there! One of my friends' friend recently shot some slides with her medium-format and I am just bedazzled by the results! Basically, instead of getting a negative you get... a positive! And the colours are incredibly bright and vibrant.

Have you ever played with slides, and what are you pieces of advice to nail it? It's bit pricey so I wouldn't want to waste it :)

A good light meter comes in handy!
Used to shoot a lot of slidefilm, had a polaroid back to check the lighting.
Otherwise +1/2, 0, -1/2 stop exposure.

Velvia and Provia are my favorites ! especially expired, something like in 2005-6 :-)
Provia 400F samples :

Less leeway in exposure compared to colour negatives, but I shot some dark sunsets with out too much hassle.

Chrome film is such a blast ...and worth every penny. You will become a better photographer. Just bracket lots and have fun! :)

Haven't shot slides in a long time - but yeah, as a few others have mentioned in the comments accurate metering helps - so I guess it depends somewhat on what body you're using. I used to use Provia 400F quite a bit in a Contax T2.
