I love Revenge, and you are 100% right, it was very intentional to focus on the male gaze in the first half. We're seeing what these men see until the horrific act of sexual violence (which I would warn viewers about). The second half of the film completely subverts the male gaze and empowers our protagonist to rip those predators eyes out (literally). Our empathy is with Matilda Lutz' Jen from beginning to end. Revenge is directed by female filmmaker, Coralie Fargeat, and this was only her FIRST feature film. Blown away. Can't wait for her second feature.
