Book Review: The End of Alchemy: Money, Banking, and the Future of the Global Economy - Mervyn King

I have always held the author in high regard, so this review may be a little biased. I also have a strong interest in financial crises, so once again my interest in this topic could mask what others find a little dry.

On first reading you know this will not be the only reading. I’m glad it’s hardback as it will form a reference on my book-shelf for years to come. Here is a master of his trade explaining the world of banking, economics and finance with a wonderful clarity and personable manner.

My favourite sections were on the Eurozone. The economic causes of the depression in Greece are made so clear that is seems oddly foolish that we cannot take the necessary political steps to solve them. If you are constantly hearing or reading of the complex nature of the root causes then you will be somewhat shocked to have them explained in one sentence.

Therein is the beauty of a master of clear thinking. 5 stars, highly recommended.
