It's been little over a week since I visited Lahti. No reason to go there, felt like driving further than just the Ruins Church and there I was. On the corner of the Sibelius Hall, at Lahti harbour.

The lake is called Vesijärvi, (Waterlake) so the harbor is the Harbor of Waterlake. It seems that when naming this lake the ideabox was empty. Nothing terrifying like Murhasaari (Murderisland) or interesting like Miekka or Vihavuosi (Sword or Hateyear), just water and lake put together. But not everything always has to be genius and awesome. Right?

Amazing how quickly the spring comes, when it finally comes. There's no ice in the lake anymore. Just check out @markkujantunen's post 4 days ago: https://steempeak.com/photography/@markkujantunen/the-first-go-club-meeting-in-the-harbour-this-year from the same harbor.

Couldn't decide which is better. Something in the foreground or more sky, so published both. Which one do you like? Green tag or the sky?

I don't know why, but I like taking vertical photos more than horizontal. Of course what I'm taking a picture of, determines if the photo will be horizontal or vertical, but for some reason, my hands just like to tilt the camera in my hands and there I go again; vertical photo. And when I come home and start selecting the photos, that also the time when I find that my horizontal photos for some reason aren't as satisfying or good, in my opinion, than the vertical ones of the same subject. I do usually take both and recently I've tried to take more horizontal photos, but the this happens. This what you can see in this post. Vertical, vertical, vertical.

Horizontal photos are better for blog posts.

But can't help it.

Perhaps I should forget both, vertical and horizontal and start photographing something in between. 45° angle. Hortical and verizontal.

Sounds awesome.

I kinda understand your appeal with vertical photos – those on this post look really nice. Especially the third one with part of the deck visible, which is probably my favorite. Are you using small aperture or how did you got everything to look so sharp and in focus?

Thanks! And yes. Aperture on the smaller side. I used the smallest I could get with the low light I had. It was half past seven in the evening and cloudy. And I'm one of those fools that almost never carry a stand with me. Actually I'm amazed that I got few sharp photos because I've dropped the Tamron lence I used too many times... :D

The half a deck photo that I assume you meant:
Aperture: f/13
Shutter: 1/60 sec
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 65 mm
Lens: Tamron 18-270mm

I trust to the raw photo editing options so much that I dare to take a bit darker photos, so I don't have to use a stand and then I'll just adjust it afterwards. But of course there's a limit to that gimmick too.

After:

Adjusting the highlights to the negative side and the clarity to the plus side also gives the illusion that the photo is sharper than it is. I don't like to use the clarity too much, because I still want the photo to look natural. In this case. But I sure do like to get every detail I can get from the highlights, so with a heavy hand on that one.

What the auto adjustment suggested, but was terrible so didn't choose that:

I always check the auto adjustments because sometimes that's totally alright what it suggests and that saves time. Especially if I just want to adjust the photo a tiny amount and the photo already was almost what I wanted it to be.
