Ice Fishing on Lake AlasenjärvisteemCreated with Sketch.

I had just finished vacuuming and mopping the floor of our old home after the move.I had a little time to spare before I needed to go pick up my wife from work. I decided to go on a short walk on the ice of Lake Alasenjärvi.

Towards the platform

It snowed rather heavily yesterday. The platform is barely visible. Those two dots in the extreme right in the picture are ice fishers.

The platform from the lake. An ice-skating track has been ploughed by a guy who lives in Viuha on the opposite shore. He uses a 500 kg all-terrain vehicle.

I went to have a chat with that ice fisher.

The drill

That's the rest of his gear.

The ice fisher gave me permission to photograph his gear. He said many species lived in this lake. Its greatest depth is about 14 metres.

This really looks like it's so much fun. I love the way the trees open a clear way out in the forest.

Hmmm... If you have warm enough clothes I think it's cool to fish like that.
And the thrill when you actually get one :d

Pilki))

Joo, pilkkijä. Kuvissa kaira ja loput välineet.

Tuliko mitä kalaa?

Ei sillä näyttänyt olevan mitään. Oli vaihtamassa paikkaa.

Aivaan)

Aika syvä järvi 14m

Se on syvin kohta. Toiseksi syvin on kuulemma 9 m. Keskisyvyys ei liene viittä metriäkään.

Is your new house on the shore of Alasenjärvi? Just wondering. Must be a beautiful place to live!

Unfortunately, it isn't. We now live in a different area. But I think I will drive to the lake and ski on it as soon as all the unpacking is done.

Of course! The winter is very beautiful this year. Good time for skiing.

I just might go and see if there are ski tracks on Lake Vesijärvi, yet. There probably are.

I only did fishing two times in my life and want to try it again.
I remember the feeling when you actually catch the fish.
The only thing is... Even though I eat fish quite often I still don't want to hurt fish when it is still alive.
