Mein Kampf Gegen Den Löwenzahn/My Struggle Against The Dandelion

in finland •  7 years ago  (edited)

Our backyard is full of dandelions because the previous owners did not bother to extract them. I bought a weed extractor and got to work.

One of the worst offenders

The solution

The tip is pushed into the soil around the root of the plant.

Look at that nasty root.

It will take a few weeks to cut down on the population to any significant degree but it will be done.

Hi markku. Will be worth the effort once it's done.

Haha. I feel your pain

Dandelions: "Noooooo, here he comes again! Run fellow citizens, run! Save yourself! Take your children and pets and and and... noooooo, he got me, he got me! Tell everyone this place is hostile territory to dandelions! Tell everyone the secret of life is..."

"Be quiet and listen, he's rambling something about Der Ewige Löwenzahn again. Now he's opening the patio door. Run!"

What a curious device!
I do it in the old way still... With a hoe.

This way you can get it all, inlcuding the root without bending.

Wouldnt it be faster or easier to use chemicals to kill them, than manually?

Sure, if such chemicals that only killed dandelions existed. I don't want to risk killing the lawn.

I am not sure if there is a chemical that can selectively kill dandelions without affecting other surrounding plants. Then the manual uprooting might just be your best bet.

I found this:

If you have a cool-season lawn and are happy to take the chemical route, you could use a selective weedkiller containing 2,4-D or MCPP, such as Trimec, Speedzone or Momentum, which are best applied in mid-spring or early fall

Thank you very much for taking the trouble of looking that up.

WOW. That is a lot of dandelions.

Keep good work of every time ...

How did it worked ? I don't understand about this brother.

Push the tip in, turn and lift.

Friend, I think you will have a lot of work in the yard of your house for a good time ..

Hi markku ... Hey what things life has. In your home and country this plant is a bad boil (bush) and here the older ladies (my mom) have them in their homes to use them as medicine for many things since it has vitamins and healing powers against diabetes, amorroids, digestive tract, Kidney problems and many other diseases. Good luck with your yard friend. regards

Okay I am sold. I want one. The way you present the problem with dandelion then come up with this special tool to get rid of them is very convincing for me. I want to have one eventhough I don't have dandelion in my backyard. 😂

Oh come on, they aren't so ugly, maybe leave some @markkujantunen it's not like they're triffids.Anyway if you decide to remove them all, there will be a more efficient method, perhaps in the chemical branch, or do not want to use that type of product near home?

I can't help but leave not just some but a lot of them. To my knowledge, there are no chemicals capable of killing only them.

Go on you master exterminator. The Markkunater will be back!

i think its very well,
