At least six people have died and seven others are still missing in northern California as a result of the early-week fire of Shasta County, which is almost completely out of control after multiplying its extent in the Last few hours, as reported by Europa Press.
The Shasta County Sheriff, Tom Bosenko, has confirmed the death of a sixth person due to the ' Carr ' fire, but has not given more details about the victim. The other five deceased are the driver of a bulldozer, two firefighters, and a woman of 70 years and their two grandchildren, 4 and 5 years, as they have confirmed several to the ' Sacramento Bee '.
After the fire was declared, the authorities reported that at least 16 people had disappeared. Of these, nine of the cases have been resolved while the police continue investigating the disappearance of seven other people, according to the local daily ' Redding Record Searchlight'.
Now more than 3,400 firefighters, 17 helicopters and several seaplanes fight the fire of Carr, which already extends to almost 36,000 hectares of land and which threatens to devastate the locality of Redding , of 90,000 inhabitants, more than one third of which has had To evacuate, according to the California Fire Department. The authorities have ordered the evacuation of 38,000 people around Redding, which is about 250 kilometres from Sacrametno, the capital of state.
The fire, which began last Monday, has grown fed by high temperatures--which today will reach 43 degrees--and winds up to 13 kilometres per hour. Linked to the dry vegetation typical of the region, these factors have caused that until now, in the morning of this Saturday time Californian, is only controlled by five percent.
