How does this make sense to anyone?

The debacle in Illinois over the Protect Illinois Communities Act, aka PICA, aka the unconstitutional assault weapons ban, and the ensuing "Freedom Week" which happened during the six days while the law was under federal injunction, says a lot about how insane these lefty gun grabbers actually are.

To be clear, you can look this up, but you're gonna have to look carefully because most news sources are glossing over this -- the statements about the guns purchased during freedom week, and how the people who bought them are facing a class 2 felony, have come from the state police -- not the legislature nor the governor. That's red flag number one.

Just like Massachusetts's law banning guns without federally logged serial numbers, there's no grandfathering in. They are acknowledging that the purchases of the guns were legal; but, it's a felony if you possess it.

If this doesn't make sense to you under basic principles like ex post facto and the rule of lenity -- it makes no sense to me either. What's more important is that it doesn't make sense to thousands of people who live in Illinois who bought guns during freedom week. What's more, I don't think that the lawmakers want it to make clear sense. This is how the gun grabbers imprison and intimidate good people who own firearms. They make the laws intentionally poorly worded and overly complicated.

Still, what we should all acknowledge is that this new rule against mere possession of a firearm is classified on the same level as rape in Illinois.

Gun owners have more than understandably been seeking legal council to navigate the law properly, and make sure that they're not clumped in prison with actual violent criminals just because they made a mistake, or missed something in the law, or were misinformed by the almost unreadable faq page on the state’s website. The thing is, there is no assurance.

Thousands of Illinois residents have been seeking this legal council in order to make sure that they're in compliance with the law. That's something that I expect. I pay a fee every month just so I can call a lawyer at any point to check my firearm compliance if I'm traveling to a state that's less sane than Arizona.

You know who isn't calling lawyers to check their compliance and avoid accidentally committing a crime? Rapists.

Rapists don't try to nip the potential legal issue in the bud because they know that rape is wrong, their intent is to commit a crime, their intent is to cause harm, and their intent is to try to avoid getting caught. Illinois is trying to punish gun owners who are actively trying to be responsible and law-abiding in the same way that they would punish a rapist.
