Another victim of Dhaka's Kaptan Bazar fire that broke out in the South City Corporation (DSCC) sweeper colony under the Hanif flyover in Dhaka has died, raising the death toll to three.
The deceased, Kanta Rani, 60, passed away on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
SM Ayub Hossain, a resident surgeon at the burn institute, confirmed the information saying that 15% of the surface area of her body had been burned.
Previously, Raju Dey, 36, died on April 1 with 55% burn injuries while his wife Shanti Rani Das, 27, died the next day with 40% burn injuries.
Both of them succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. The couple was Kanta Rani's son and daughter-in-law.
The other burn victims included Raju's two sons, Krishna Das, 7, and Lakshman Das, 4, as well as neighbours Geeta Rani Dey, 65, and Afzal Hossain, 52.
Geeta Rani Dey and Afzal Hossain were discharged from the hospital after treatment.
Seven people, including five from the same family, sustained burn injuries in the fire near Kaptan Bazar and Joy Kali Mandir area of Dhaka on March 27.
Seven firefighting units brought the flames under control after over an hour of effort.
