The gun debate in USA is cyclical

This happens every couple of years and just happens to coincide with elections which I find extremely suspicious. Isn't it a bit nuts that almost every time there is an election coming up that everyone jumps on the gun-control train?

I think that this time around that the reason why they are screaming from the rafters so loud is because the left is losing support dramatically and is looking like they are going to lose badly in November. We have a lot of voters who are very unhappy with the direction the country is going in and the usual talking points and passing the buck to someone else isn't working. We have independents and even liberals that are saying they are going to vote Republican (I wish they would vote Libertarian) this time around. So the talking heads and people in power just happen to get a chance to talk about a couple of things that many liberals will NEVER side with conservatives on: Abortion and guns.

I'm not touching the abortion thing because even though I am conservative I am actually pro-choice. I do know a lot of people that are so pro-choice though that they don't even take the time to look at what the Roe v. Wade thing that is being talked about right now is even about. Their decisions are made by their social media of choice even though it is filled with lies.

I don't side with any party all the time. I am one of those rare individuals that looks at a topic based on the merits of said topic and debate, rather than just siding with whatever some politician tells me to think . As far as gun control is concerned though, I think that all of the propositions that are being talked about right now are just "par for the course" in an election year. When nothing changes a year from now - or the changes are so minor and arbitrary to the point where they may as well not have even wasted time on them, I will not be surprised because I have seen it happen so many times in my life. The politicians pretend to actually give a damn about you but they don't. They just want your money and your vote... after they have that they will throw you out the car door.

When it comes to gun control I have a tendency to look at the liberals who are screaming the most about this the same way that this cartoon depicts the situation.

What is it about this that is so difficult for some people to understand? Criminals do not care about laws and if you make a gun illegal to own or obtain, there are always going to be plenty of ways to get one anyway. This is true with drugs and prostitution and probably a ton of other things as well. When you make owning guns criminal, only criminals will have guns.

Almost everyone I know owns at least one firearm. Some people might view us as gun nuts but none of us have ever shot anyone and I only know a few people that have ever even brandished their weapon. We are a group of severely safety-oriented people that treat our weapons as exactly what they are: Something that can easily end a life if used.

I have mentioned it many times before but in my heavily armed community we have almost no crime at all. We certainly don't have any violent crime aside from the odd teenage assault situation. Our community is safer because of such a high presence of gun ownership and yes, we have MANY AR-15 owners here as well. I own one. I think it is an amazing weapon and really can't understand how they decided to go after this one particular weapon.

I know it makes me sound like a redneck for saying that I'm not going to let them take my guns away but I mean it and my state of North Carolina's leaders are very aware of the fact that they better not touch this topic if they want to stay in office. I find it a bit silly that they are trying to sway public opinion in Texas. It seems to me like this is very likely to backfire on the people who are trying to use these tragic events as a political talking point.

It will be very interesting to me to see if Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia even participates in this debate because if he were to turn on gun owners in West Virginia, I think his chances of re-election would go right out the window.

Mark my words: Politicians are going to talk about this and use it as a method of grand-standing for the next 5 months then after that the entire discussion is going to abruptly and quietly disappear into the night.... just like it has done all of my life.

"I wish they would vote Libertarian"

The LP is a joke. I stopped taking them serious in 2016 when they nominated Gary "bake the nazi cake" Johnson and Bill gun grabbing Weld. I think most libertarians that vote, vote Republican especially at the local and state level where they have a direct input on the results. Even if you view voting as learned helplessness taking the less severe shock is still a better option.

All proposed gun control measures violate other rights in the bill of rights. Red and yellow flag laws violate the 5th amendment due process rights of owners as do no buy lists and "assault" weapons bans violate the takings clause. Similarly proposed home inspections of gun owners violate the 4th amendment privacy rights. The Bill of rights are not a buffet politicians can pick and choose from; they are fundamentally intricate to one another.

The shootings aren't necessarily timed. It's just that the liberal media chooses to cover a handful and ignore most of them for propaganda purposes. There was a school shooting at my alum mater Southeastern in Hammond, LA but because the perp was black there was no national media coverage. There's bloodshed every day in New Orleans and "mass shootings" every month on Bourbon street. Again crickets because the perps are 95% black and it doesn't fit their narrative.

Yeah Gary really effed up the party. I found his interviews that were finally getting national attention to be cringe AF. There was a real opportunity to have a real 3rd party in 2016 but of course the media did everything in their power to stop that. It didn't help that Gary sounded like an idiot every time he was on a show.

but because the perp was black there was no national media coverage.

Yeah, this too and good guy with a gun stories get almost no coverage at all.

I want to slap people when they talk about clips and assault weapons when they clearly have no idea what they are talking about. I especially enjoy it when they talk about "military grade weapons" like the AR-15 when the AR-15 has been used in military operations exactly zero times.

Hmmm.... timed shootings. Interesting thoughts.

well i'm not suggesting the shootings are timed - the focus on them is
