I still, for some reason that's beyond me, don't own an AR-15. I've shot several of them. I just don't own one yet.

Still, I wanna address the "Why do you need an AR-15." question in two additional ways to the several that I've pointed to. One may surprise you.

One is that an AR-15s are generally really easy to aim. Hitting a target with my 1911 or a snubnose takes a lot of skill and practice. If the gun makes it easier for the average Joe or Jill to hit the bad guy, it's less likely that Joe or Jill will miss the bad guy and hit a good guy.

The other is that .223 rounds, despite the general Democrat rhetoric, don't tend to overpenetrate. They're actually relatively small bullets moving at a high velocity. They do a great deal of damage to the first thing that they hit; but, they lose most of their energy pretty dang quickly after the first impact.

Most of the ballistics tests that I've seen have shown that .45 ACP has more overpenetration problems than 9mm or .223.

If Biden were right, and a 9mm bullet could rip your lung out, it would probably be more popular than it already is. No better way to kill a rapist. It still doesn't change the fact that 9mm bullets also have the advantage of not overpenetrating as much as other rounds.

Also, Biden might have sounded sensible when he recommended getting a double barreled shotgun and firing into the air -- even though that's illegal. But, when it comes to overpenetration, 12 gauge buckshot is much more likely to fly through the bad guy, then through a wall, and then hit a good guy, than a .223 round out of an AR-15.

I do own one and it is one of my favorite rifles to shoot at the range. 50 million Americans a day are killed by gun violence! :P
