While attending a recent low light handgun class, I became clued in to a great product that simplifies the usage and deployment of a hand held light during a defensive pistol scenario. The Surefire Combat Ring.
This simple device fits onto 1" diameter lights as shown below.
Orient the ring so that you can slip your pointer finger through the loop as you grab the light from your pocket.
I'm not sure what it is actually made of but the ring is a soft, flexible, rubber like material so there is less risk of injuring your finger than if it were a solid piece. Now if you lose your grip on the light it will not fall.
Should you need your hand to perform a task other than hold your light, you can flip the light over your hand instead of trying to stow it in its carry position.
The ability to quickly flip your light out of the way means that your magazine changes or malfunction clearances are sped up, getting you back in the fight faster. Returning the light to action is just as fast. Previously, I had to waste valuable time stowing the light or just dropping it entirely. Neither of which were ideal.
This affordable product is a great enhancement which will smooth out your technique.
I hope you found this enlightening.
Take care and be aware.
The Surefire Combat Ring comes in a 3 pack with 2 other rings not shown above because I threw them out. They were not loops like the one shown here and I felt they were of now use.
