A very simple fire pit design featuring 36 flagstone blocks in a circle with gravel underneath. All in all, it took about an hour to build with Taylor at his house.
The most challenging aspect to this build was making sure the pit was level, as it was being built on a slight slope.
Without a tamper to flatten out the dirt effectively, to flatten the dirt we simply tread the dirt with our feet repetitively. Seemed effective enough as we were able to achieve a decently level pit.
Once we achieved a pit about 3 inches deep on the shallow end, we poured the gravel in and again stomped them in to a flat level surface. Then we constructed the fire circle with the flagstone blocks, squirting some caulk on the blocks as we lay them on top each other to give them a better stick.
Then place the black rim in the circle and poured some white marble pebbles around the outside the ring and some on the inside and that was it! All done!
I think it looks great, and will be a great solution to his bonfire issue. He had a fire "table" that fell apart with use so this will be more of a permanent fix.
Today's midday atmosphere featured dense cumulus congestus clouds that were large enough to produce precipitation beneath some of them. And some even appeared to form an anvil head, indicative of a cumulonimbus cloud.
After finishing the fire pit construction, another temperature front seemed to pass over head as the clouds changed dramatically and nearly cleared out for the rest of the evening.
Love the design
