The Bath School Disaster, also known as the Bath School Massacre, was a series of violent attacks launched by Andrew Kehoe on May 18, 1927 in Bath Town, Michigan, USA. The attack killed 38 elementary school students and 6 adults, and at least 58 people were injured. Before the timed explosive exploded in the Bath Comprehensive School building, Kehoe murdered his wife Nellie Preschio and blew up his farm. When Kehoe arrived at the school explosion site, he detonated the explosive hidden in the truck, killing him.
Kehoe, the 55-year-old financial director of the school board, was angry about the tax increase and his failure in the election of township officials on April 5, 1926. Locals believe that he planned his "murder revenge" after that public defeat. Kehoe has a reputation for having difficulties with the school board and personal interactions. In addition, he was told in June 1926 that his mortgage would be cancelled. Kehoe bought explosives for most of the second year until May 1927. He secretly hid them in his property and school.
On May 18, 1927, Kehoe subsequently set off an almost simultaneous explosion at his farm and Bath Comprehensive School. His device destroyed the building on the farm and passed through the north wing of the Bath Comprehensive School Building. When rescuers started working at the school, Kehoe drove to the campus and detonated explosives in a truck full of shrapnel. The truck exploded and killed Kehoe and four other people, as well as wounding bystanders. During the rescue and recovery efforts, searchers found another 500 pounds (230 kg) of unexploded explosives and tar on the south wing of the school. Kehoe apparently intends to destroy the entire school and kill everyone in it.
