I am begging people to please think before they play with fireworks, I am concerned about your safety but also for all the animals that live around you. My poor baby Mika is having a terrible time with all the bangs going off, she's running around the house barking, she's shaking and panting, she looks really scared. We have bought some tablets from Pets at Home that are supposed to relax her. I sat with her on my knee for over an hour last night holding her tight trying to make her feel secure. She panted and moaned for around half an hour before she started to feel a bit more settled then when I lay her down she was that tired she fell asleep and stayed there most the night.

Please have a thought for all the animals, its not just in the house its animals outside too, horses, fox's, etc
I'm not the biggest fan of fireworks, I have never enjoyed the loud bangs but did enjoy the shapes and colours they made. My girls have always hated them so we have never gone to see any, we have stayed in with out dogs to keep them company.
Where I live they always set fireworks off far to early then continue a few days after Guy Fawkes. My babies especially Mika are a mess they can't settle they cry the whole time its horrible to watch.

Outside the UK, New Zealand, probably Australia, and maybe some other Commonwealth countries, nobody else will know about Guy Fawkes Day. That on the 5th November, we commemorate a plot to blow up Parliament back in what, the 1700s? (WTF? I can see everybody else saying)
When I was a child, every household had their own little display in their back yards. I liked the fireworks but I was also terrified of them. I wouldn't go outside till it was all over, but watched through the window, my stomach clenched in a knot till I knew my father and brothers had made it through safely without blowing themselves up. I was even nervous with sparklers.
And those few weeks beforehand when you could buy them in any dairy, and there were always groups of boys standing round after school, ready to throw bangers at anyone walking past.
Now, in NZ, most cities have free public displays. @sift666 and I met on Guy Fawkes night, many years ago, so we always appreciate the city putting on free fireworks for our anniversary.
But you can still buy fireworks for your own displays, though only for about a week beforehand now. Sometimes we can see local displays of skyrockets later that night, or on the nearest weekend, and then some usually get saved for New Years. But overall, it's much less than it used to be.
