Am thrilled to engage in the first week of season 21 First-aid class everyone is entitled to know how to deliver first aid treatment because in times of emergency a life can be safed.

Share your any experience of your life, in which you faced the emergency that could be handled by your own only if you know the basic first response skills.

I remember back in 2016 an incident took place on my way back from school, the front tire of a motorcycle pulled out causing the rider to loose control falling to the ground caused severe injuries to the man and the lady that was sitting behind him.

Then i had no single idea of how to render any help at the moment, me and two other friends of mine help the man and the woman out of the main road, the man had a deep cut on his arm while the woman sustain so many injuries on her skin and was also breathing heavily. I was terrified and scared at the same time, than man lost so mush blood as a result of bleeding and i had no idea of what to do until help arrived and rushed them to the hospital. I always wished i knew how to perform first aid i would have prevented the man from loosing so mush blood while waiting for help to arrive.

Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving. There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario?

We live in a world were unforseen occurrence can take place one of which is accident that can leave the casualty vulnerable, let me imagine am on a lonely road or first to witness an accident scene I will quickly take the following actions :

Danger: what i mean by danger is trying to help the casualty in that same position the accident took place this can put me, the casualty and others at risk, so i will check if the scene is safe then is its not i will move the casualty to a safer place.

Responds: i would have attended to the bleeding spot but what if the casualty is also choking, so i will ask questions like: can you hear me? If i get a response fine if i dont i will firstly open the mouth to check if there is anything blocking the airway bleeding is also dangerous because too mush lost of blood can weaken the casualty and might cause it life. With a cotton cloth i will apply pressure and tie the bleeding spot to stop the bleeding, then proceed to check heart beat and pulse to see if the is need for CPR.

Call for help: if the severity of the casualty did not permit me to seek for help at first, i will dial the emergency number and explain the condition of the casualty alongside with the location of the accident scene, after seeking for help i will try to calm the casualty also let him/her lay by the side for a free airway while we wait for medical help.

Draw or Create an engaging illustration/flowchart of DRABC protocol (Try to be creative and don't forget to add your username on the illustration)

QuestionWhat the Student Did WellAreas for ImprovementGrading
Question 1Provided a vivid account of a road traffic accident, describing the injuries of the motorcyclist and passenger. The narrative effectively conveys personal regret for not knowing first aid skills.Expanding on specific first aid steps, such as controlling bleeding or supporting an injured limb, could strengthen the response. Additionally, focusing on the primary question regarding the role of a first responder would enhance relevance. The narrative could benefit from specific first aid terminology and details on actions.[Grade: 1.4]
Question 2Demonstrated a strong understanding of the DRABC protocol and presented each step in a clear and logical sequence.Including details on maintaining a safe scene, such as how to assess danger, would be beneficial. Consider what different dangers could be present for a road traffic accident, like traffic hazards, broken glass, or motor vehicle parts. When discussing responsiveness, mention specific verbal prompts or ways to check for consciousness. Also, if the casualty doesn’t respond, what would you do in that case? Additionally, you didn’t mention anything about checking breathing or how you would assess if the airway passage is clear or not. Describe how you would visually and manually assess breathing and pulse as well.[Grade: 1.0]
Question 3Created a detailed and visually appealing illustration of the DRABC protocol, showcasing creativity and effort in design.Overall, very good work with the illustration. I really liked the chart you made. Keep up the good work.[Grade: 2.3]
Question 4Provided a clear list of emergency numbers for the local area, with a well-organized presentation that includes essential services.Consider enhancing the list by explaining the function of each service and adding specialized helplines (national suicide prevention, police emergency). This could make the list more informative and useful.[Grade: 1.0]
Question 5Completed the quiz with good accuracy, demonstrating a grasp of essential first aid concepts covered in the lesson.Excellent work here; 9 out of 10 questions were correct.[Grade: 2.2]

General Feedback: Your homework demonstrates a solid understanding of the DRABC protocol and the importance of quick action in emergencies. The illustration and details you provided show effort and creativity. For improvement, focus on providing additional specific first aid actions in your responses. This will enhance the quality of your submissions and make your answers more informative. Great work overall specially the illustration.
